Classification: Intern, 20 hrs/wk, Non-Exempt, 1-year commitment  

Ministry Area: Next Gen - Middle School Ministry  

Location: Chanhassen  

Reports to: Dan Johnson

Ministry Area Purpose:   

Middle School Ministry exists to partner with middle school students and their families to help them become followers of Jesus and know they are loved by God, empowered by His Holy Spirit, and called to share Jesus with the world around them.

Role:  

Intentionally invest in gaining experience and knowledge for professional, personal, and spiritual development.  

Responsibilities:  

  • Assist the Middle School Pastor in giving sermons on Wednesday nights and/or Sunday mornings
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and leadership of volunteers and volunteer teams  
  • Help implement and support vision and direction set by the Middle School Pastor.  
  • Support a multiplication model of ministry  
  • Assist in planning and executing camps, retreats, and events  
  • Participate in regular mentoring and feedback meetings with the Middle School Pastor for leadership development.  
  • Be available for occasional weekend or evening commitments as ministry requires.  
  • Build intentional relationships with students through presence, follow-up, and participation in programming.  
  • Participate in regular check-ins and a mid-year/end-of-year evaluation.  
  • Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

  • Someone who lives a life that honors God in heart, actions, and relationships, with the goal of becoming more like Jesus  
  • Pursuing a baccalaureate degree  
  • Volunteer experience in youth ministry (1 year preferred)
  • Ability to lead others in large scale design and implementation relevant to a student demographic  
  • Ability to teach and preach the word of God  
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills  
  • Basic familiarity with church communication tools (e.g., Planning Center, ProPresenter, Canva, etc.) is a plus.  
  • Ability to handle conflict in a mature way  
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with a team  
  • A posture of teachability and adaptability  
  • Endorse Westwood's Statement of Faith
  • Participate in required team events: Orientation (September 8th, 2026) and Intensives (October 26-28th, 2026 and April 5-7th, 2027)
