The University of Arizona Health Sciences Library invites you to apply to the role of Library Services Associate III. The Health Sciences Library (HSL) is seeking a Library Services Associate III (LSA) to support our equipment lending program and serve as a liaison to the HSL Services Team, the College of Medicine IT Support (COM-IT), the Technology, Strategy & Services (TeSS), and Access and Information Services (AIS) departments at the University Libraries. As LSA, you will have the opportunity to lead our strategic initiatives through special projects, events, and exhibits and serve on departmental and library-wide committees, participating in the decision-making process and communicating with relevant stakeholders. You will also provide outstanding customer service to support the educational needs of our customers and promote a safe and secure learning environment at HSL. Your assistance will provide our customers with basic research needs, and provide information, reference, and technical assistance to facilitate access to collections of the University of Arizona Libraries. To meet the needs of our customers, your work patterns and schedule may change periodically.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Supports equipment lending services, which include inventory, storage, and security control; initial response to routine problems; damage assessment; liaison with TeSS and COM-IT; assessment and benchmarking for policy/procedure changes; and software and technology support and training for library staff, part-time student employees and library customers.
• Collaborates with COM-IT and TeSS on the oversight of 12 student-use lab computers.
• Supports the ongoing collection, management, and analysis of departmental and library use data for needs assessment.
• Responsible for providing backup student management for 5+ part-time student employees.
• This includes assisting with scheduling, training, time approvals, and effective communication with various individuals (e.g., desk staff, main student manager, and supervisors) to ensure tasks are performed correctly.
• Provides customers with reference, technology, and circulation assistance (in-person, online via chat, phone, and email).
• Supports efforts to create an environment conducive for study, meetings, and collaboration (i.e., academic and scholarly endeavors) by enforcing compliance with the Libraries Code of Conduct policies and applying other pertinent Libraries and University policies and procedures
• Develops and fosters excellent relations with faculty, students, and the broader campus community.
• The UA Libraries support the UA's strategic initiatives designed to create a welcoming environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is expected to support these strategic initiatives in the department and college.

• Understanding of the research and references process as well as a broad understanding of various types of reference sources (e.g., library catalog, indexes, web-scale discovery services, search engines, virtual and print resources) and their appropriate uses, including understanding the differences between primary and secondary resources
• Skill in interviewing customers regarding reference service and sources to better understand customer needs
• Knowledge of advanced data collection and information research methods, including the knowledge of specialized data analysis software (e.g., LibAnalytics, Excel, and Qualtrics)
• Skill in facilitating meetings and delivering presentations
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of a variety of perspectives
• Positive attitude and strong demonstration of the Libraries' Values.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience required in addition to education requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of experience supervising student workers, including scheduling, training, approving payroll, developing and tracking wage budget, and daily direction.
• Experience searching integrated Library Services Platform and record interpretation (e.g., Ex Libris).
• Experience using course management systems (e.g., Desire2Learn)
• Experience gathering and analyzing internal and external data (both qualitative and quantitative).
• Experience professionally representing an organization, including events.
• Experience with issues pertaining to circulation and library code of conduct procedures.
• Experience providing reference services (in-person and virtual), utilizing the reference interview process to determine customer needs in an academic, research, or large public library.
• Experience with the LibApps suite of software (LibCal, LibAnswers, LibGuides, etc.).
• Experience processing Interlibrary Loan requests.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
