Library Media Assistant

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 48 college credit hours, or successful completion of the Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET), or ParaPro Test.

• Working knowledge of basic office procedures and common office equipment to include computers and database and word processing programs.

• Highly developed interpersonal, group, and communication skills.

• Self-motivation and the ability to work without constant direct supervision.

Reports To: Site principal; site library media specialist; may consult Director of Information Technology Services.

Job Goal:

To assist in providing a well organized, smoothly functioning library media program that supports the educational mission of the school.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Maintains the appropriate order of library media center materials and equipment to assure efficient access.
  2. Accurately circulates library media center materials and equipment to students and staff while keeping proper records of their circulation.
  3. Assists in making requisitions for library media center materials and equipment.
  4. Prepares new materials and equipment for placement in the library media center's collection.
  5. Maintains electronic catalog and circulation records and makes changes as necessary to keep the records current and accessible.
  6. Develops and distributes reports concerning available materials to teachers and students including overdue reports.
  7. Makes simple repairs to damaged materials.
  8. Maintains an inventory of office, technology supplies, and replacement items.
  9. Follows established procedure to collect and receipt money paid for fines or lost materials, and maintains financial records for special projects.
  10. Prepares circulation and financial reports as needed.
  11. Assists students and staff with the use of library media center materials, audiovisual and computer equipment, and electronic resources.
  12. Assists in maintaining the appearance of the library media center.
  13. Assists in inventory and weeding procedures.
  14. Performs other duties as required or assigned to benefit the library media program.

Terms of Employment: Nine months.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
