Job description

POSITION: MEDIA CLERK/AUDIO-VISUAL AIDE, MEDIA CENTER Pierce Middle School

SCHEDULE: 8 hours per day 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 190 days Organization day-last faculty day


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports directly to the Teacher-Librarian. May receive direction from the Principal or Director of Library Media Services.


SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES: General supervision of students may be required.

Responsibilities:

1. Handles teachers’ requests for media center books and non-print materials.

2. Receives and schedules requests for use of the Library Media Center.

3. Checks order requests against catalog holdings and readies orders generated by the teacher-librarian.

4. Prepares purchase orders as directed by the Teacher-Librarian.

5. Is responsible for circulation desk tasks on a daily basis.

6. Readies new materials for shelving.

7. Trains media student aides in shelving books and non-print materials.

8. Makes minor repairs of book items.

9. Keeps a file of current catalogs, making these available to teachers requesting relevant curriculum materials.

10. Assists with inventory of all Media Center materials.

11. Assists or prepares research materials for teachers for classroom use.

12. Checks books for repair or need for rebinding.

13. Keeps records of all materials sent out and the location of materials sent from the building.

14. Maintains checklists of magazines.

15. Keep records needed for Media Center reports as requested by the Teacher-Librarian.

16. Generates overdue notices on a regular basis and distributes them as needed.

17. Acts in a responsible manner in absence of the Teacher-Librarian.

18. Types and files all correspondence pertaining to the Library Media Center.

19. Prepares reports generated by the Teacher-Librarian, to be distributed to teachers on the availability of new media materials.

20. Coordinate instructional A/V equipment usage for staff.

21. Types and files all correspond pertaining to the audio-visual department.

22. Set-up A/V equipment for organizations using building facilities.

23. Maintain electronic inventory for all A/V and media resources on the Destiny system.

24. Troubleshooting and light repair work of equipment including the laminator.

25. Fulfill video and other media resource materials as requested by teachers.

26. Fulfill videotaping requests for classroom use.

27. Prepare and assist staff and students with die-cuts and Scantron grading.

28. Laminates items for teachers and charges to departments accordingly.

29. Cleans overhead rolls as needed.

30. Assists with textbook circulation and inventory as needed.

31. Facilitates makerspace activities as needed.

32 Oversees the scheduling and materials in the Captain’s Corner, reporting damage or loss as needed

33 Supervises in the Captain’s Corner during lunch hours according to the set schedule.

34 Assist with barcoding and covering novels for academic classes.

35 Inputs serial numbers as needed for textbook preparation.

36 Other duties related to the library media center as requested by the Director of Media Services and the Teacher-Librarian.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Demonstrated ability to learn and effectively use Destiny circulation software.

2. Proven working knowledge of the Internet with the ability to assist students with online research.

3. Exhibits an enthusiasm for reading.

4. Proven proficiency of basic library skills by passing the Library basic skills test.

5. Meets the qualifications for Category II support personnel.

6. Passed both the clerical basic skills test and Skyward training.

7. High school diploma or equivalent.

8. Demonstrated ability to work with students, staff and public.

9. Possess a positive outlook toward the school system, the school and co-workers.

10. Exhibits a pleasant disposition.

11. Exhibits outstanding organizational skills.

12. Successful Interview with Director of Library Media Services.
