Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) serves six parishes (East and West Baton Rouge, Iberville, Pointe Coupee and West and East Feliciana) in South Louisiana there are eight locations: 1) the Mid-City Campus in Baton Rouge; 2) the Acadian Campus in Baton Rouge; 3) The Frazier site in Baton Rouge; 4) the Ardendale site in Baton Rouge; 5) the Central Site 6) the Port Allen site 7) the Jackson site and 8) the New Roads site. Provides circulation, basic technical support and general information services to students, faculty, staff, and other library users through the daily operations of the Library, using the library's integrated online system and other resources. Provides information and technical assistance in the Library including basic computer and printer troubleshooting and software assistance. Takes an active role in training and supervising student workers in the department. Assists with other library activities, including providing services at other sites, as necessary. This position includes regular evening and/or morning hours, opening and closing the building, and extended hours during finals.

  • Participate in the daily operation of the Library, which includes providing services directly to the public using an integrated online catalog system, including check-ins, checkouts, and promoting good customer relations
  • Provide customer assistance with public access technology including but not limited to devices (computer, tablet, ereader, etc.) and peripheral device support including scanners, printers, and microform reader/printer/scanners, use of applications including Microsoft Office, the campus learning management system, the campus printing solution, and other common software apps
  • Support patron use of the library's online resources such as the library website, LibGuides, and online databases.
  • Communicate with patrons via email, phone, and chat; Assist patrons in person and online with informational and directional questions; Help patrons locate resources in the library and on campus
  • Work scheduled evening or morning hours as assigned; Open and close the library as assigned; Travel to other BRCC sites to provide library resources and services as needed

  • Participates in hiring, training, and supervising student workers
  • Participate as part of the Library's responsibilities to monitor building activities, ensure user adherence to Library policies; Report maintenance and safety issues appropriately
  • Track patron questions and answers to ensure continuity of services across department and to contribute to data collection for annual reports.

  • Report technical issues to the College's Information Technology (IT) department as needed via the Help Desk ticket system and troubleshoot technical issues in collaboration with the Library staff and the College's IT department as needed.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Associate's degree or higher and work experience in a library or educational setting, or other relevant customer service work experience.
Experience
  • One year of experience working in a library, educational, or customer service setting (or one year of combined total relevant work experience in different environments).
Experience Substitution:
  • Volunteer work or internships in a relevant field, or demonstrated active involvement in student organizations may substitute for required work experience..
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated skills and experience using computers, saving and opening files, using cloud storage, printers, Microsoft Office and other technology applications.
  • Willingness to be flexible and learn new processes and skills in an evolving and dynamic work environment.
  • Must be willing to switch shifts as necessary to meet operational needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English
  • Physical ability to move books and book trucks and to lift/move up to 40 lbs. Ability to bend, lift, and twist to reach and work with material and equipment on shelves and on the floor.
