What is a student intern?

Student interns are individuals, typically enrolled in high school, college, or university, who participate in short-term work experiences with organizations to gain practical knowledge and skills related to their field of study. Internships can be paid or unpaid and are designed to provide hands-on learning, professional development, and networking opportunities. Student interns often perform entry-level tasks while observing and assisting experienced professionals, helping bridge the gap between academic learning and the workplace.

How does a student intern typically collaborate with full-time staff and other interns during their internship?

Student Interns often work closely with both full-time team members and fellow interns on projects and daily tasks. Collaboration usually involves attending team meetings, participating in brainstorming sessions, and contributing to group assignments. Interns are encouraged to ask questions, seek feedback, and network with colleagues to learn from their experience. This interactive environment helps interns develop communication skills, adapt quickly to professional settings, and build valuable relationships that can support future career growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a student intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Student Intern, you generally need strong academic performance, eagerness to learn, and relevant coursework or basic knowledge in your field. Familiarity with productivity tools such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and sometimes basic project management or industry-specific software, is often expected. Effective communication, adaptability, and a proactive attitude are standout soft skills for interns. These qualities are vital for contributing to the team, maximizing learning opportunities, and building a foundation for future professional growth.

Job description

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is seeking a creative, organized, and motivated Marketing & Communications Intern to help tell the story of the innovative technologies shaping the future of aerospace, defense, and advanced transportation. Based in North Logan, Utah, EPS develops advanced energy storage systems that power next-generation aircraft and transportation platforms. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for a student who is interested in marketing, communications, social media, branding, public relations, or digital marketing and wants to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a fast-paced technology environment.
As the Marketing & Communications Intern, you will support a variety of marketing initiatives that strengthen the EPS brand and increase awareness of our products and technology. Working closely with the CEO and senior leadership, you will assist with website updates, create engaging social media content, help build the CEO's professional online presence, support marketing campaigns, develop promotional materials, and coordinate trade shows and industry events. You'll also collaborate with engineering, business development, and program management teams to create accurate, compelling content while gaining exposure to executive communications, event planning, digital marketing, and strategic branding.
This position is ideal for a student who enjoys writing, content creation, social media management, marketing strategy, and project coordination. Successful candidates are strong communicators who can manage multiple priorities, pay close attention to detail, and adapt their writing style for different audiences. Experience with LinkedIn, Microsoft Office 365, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Google Analytics, SEO, video editing, or other marketing tools is helpful but not required.
Candidates should be currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Marketing, Communications, Business, MBA, Public Relations, or a related field. Prior internships, coursework, campus involvement, or personal projects related to marketing, communications, content creation, branding, or social media are encouraged but not required. We offer a flexible work schedule designed to accommodate class schedules and exam periods, allowing students to gain valuable professional experience while continuing their education.
Limited travel opportunities may be available to support trade shows, conferences, and company events.
