Groundskeeper
Hendrix College invites applications for the position of Groundskeeper, a full-time, 12-month position. Reporting to the Grounds Supervisor, the Groundskeeper performs general grounds maintenance labor, mows grass, landscapes grounds, operates grounds maintenance equipment, works under the direct supervision of the higher level supervisory employees.JOB DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Plants, transplants, fertilizes, waters, prunes, and cares for flowers, shrubs, and trees.
  2. Mow, waters, fertilizes and cares for lawns. Sows seed and lays sod.
  3. May operate and/or receive on the job training in the operation of various grounds maintenance equipment as directed.
  4. Removes snow and ice from walkways, roadways, and parking lots.
  5. Remove leaves, litter, etc. from campus grounds, parking lots, roadways, walkways, and buildings.
  6. Assists in maintaining roads and parking lots as required.
  7. May be required to perform some custodial duties and may be assigned indoor work as directed.
  8. Assists in the orientation of new employees or students as directed.
  9. Performs miscellaneous labor; Operates two-way radio, may clean garage and storage compound. Fuels and cleans trucks, and clean tools.
  10. Must complete all work orders in SchoolDude in a timely manner.
  11. Performs specialized tasks during adverse weather conditions and college closures. In the event of unscheduled closures due to weather events and/or other circumstances, serves as “essential personnel” for reopening the college.
  12. Must positively communicate with students, faculty and staff in completion of duties.
  13. Must complete all required training as scheduled.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and experience in grounds maintenance related work.
  • Ability to operate motorized maintenance equipment is required and must be demonstrated.
  • Duties require walking, stooping, climbing, working at extreme heights and lifting heavy equipment and materials.
  • Must be available to work flexible shifts, if required.
  • Must have a current Arkansas driver's license.
  • Ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions.
  • Lifting objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to withstand extreme hot/cold weather.
  • Ability to work overtime and/or weekends.
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals.
