Title: Student Support Assistant - Special Education
Position Type: Full-time
Location: Annandale, Virginia

What the Student Support Assistant does:
In coordination with the Behavior Department and Classroom staff, Student Support Assistants provide support as assigned to classroom staff both during the school day and after dismissal. Additional duties include:
  • Assists in assigned classroom by implementing teaching plans and behavior programs.
  • Provides individualized instruction and supervision for students on and off campus.
  • Assists in large group activities.
  • Assists Behavior Staff when available.
  • Assists with computer entry of behavior data when needed.
  • Checks and restocks supply of point cards, day notes, weekly paychecks, behavior sheets, etc
  • Assists staff involved in special projects, i.e., fund raising, inventories, bulk mailing, field trips, off-campus training and the like.

What the Student Support Assistant brings to the team:
  • Bachelor's Degree in psychology, education or related field, highly preferred
  • Experience in crisis prevention/intervention required
  • Experience in applied behavior analysis, functional assessment, positive behavioral supports, behavior programming and behavioral counseling preferred
