Job description


The Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) at Inova Fairfax Medical is seeking an experienced Operating Room Nurse to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse looking to specialize in cardiovascular surgery.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to train and support seven CVOR suites, providing care for both adult and pediatric cardiovascular procedures. Our program has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as "High Performing" in heart bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Sign on Bonus & Relocation bonus is available for eligible candidates.
Work Schedule: Full time; 3/13hr shifts or 4/10hr shifts available.
Must be available to take call and rotate weekends, holidays and off-shifts.
The CVOR is located on the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus within the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute (IHVI) for adult cardiac surgery and Inova Women's and Children's Hospital for pediatric/congenital cardiac surgery. The CVORs are state of the art with Stryker integrated video and a Philips (Single Plane) Hybrid OR with a total of 7 operating rooms serving all cardiac surgery needs including thoracic organ transplant (heart and lung), mechanical circulatory support, structural heart, congenital, and advanced aortic surgery.

Operating Room Registered Nurse Responsibilities:
  • Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
  • Formulates individualized plans of care based upon assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
  • Supports and empowers patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions.
  • Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective and provides counsel and acts as a resource to resolve issues.
  • Anticipates ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients/families and assists staff in assessing patients' learning needs.

Operating Room Registered Nurse Requirements:
  • Experience: Requires a minimum of 1 year of direct Operating Room (OR) experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Education: BSN or ADN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate's Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date
  • License: Must be licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse
  • Certification: Basic Life Support with American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications:
  • AORN's Periop 101 curriculum completion
  • Scrub experience
  • Level 1 trauma experience
