CAD Drafter – Low Voltage / Structured Cabling

Location: Bethel, CT

Position Type: Full-Time

Overview

A growing low voltage and structured cabling company based in Bethel, CT is seeking a CAD Drafter to support the design and documentation of commercial technology infrastructure projects across a variety of industries. This individual will work closely with project managers, engineers, field teams, and clients to create accurate design packages for structured cabling, fiber optic, security, wireless, and other low-voltage systems.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple projects while producing high-quality technical drawings and design documentation. Experience interpreting floor plans, conduit pathways, cable tray layouts, MDF/IDF room designs, and structured cabling infrastructure is highly preferred. This posting aligns with responsibilities commonly found in internal low-voltage and structured cabling documentation and design work.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain CAD drawings for structured cabling and low-voltage infrastructure projects.
  • Develop floor plans, cable routing drawings, riser diagrams, rack elevations, and as-built documentation.
  • Design layouts for MDFs, IDFs, communication rooms, pathways, cable trays, and conduit systems.
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, engineers, and field technicians throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Update drawings based on field changes, RFIs, customer requests, and project revisions.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with project documentation packages.
  • Ensure designs comply with client standards and industry best practices.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of CAD drafting or design experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Experience creating construction drawings and technical documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and telecommunications drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with structured cabling, low-voltage systems, telecommunications, or AV infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic and copper cabling systems.
  • Familiarity with MDF/IDF layouts, conduit pathways, and cable tray design.
  • Experience supporting commercial construction projects.
  • Knowledge of BICSI standards is a plus.
