JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Designer / Detailer (Structural & Miscellaneous Steel)

LOCATION: Gas City, Indiana

JOB SUMMARY

The Designer/Detailer plays a critical role in transforming engineering and architectural concepts into detailed drawings and 3D models used for the fabrication and construction of structural steel systems. This position combines technical accuracy, collaboration, and problem-solving to support successful project delivery.

This role is based in Gas City, IN and includes occasional travel (within ~75 miles) for field verification and coordination.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop detailed shop drawings, erection drawings, and general arrangement drawings
  • Create and maintain 3D models of structural and miscellaneous steel components
  • Interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and project standards
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, fabricators, and contractors to resolve design issues
  • Perform connection detailing and ensure quality control standards are met
  • Prepare proposals, RFIs (Requests for Information), and material lists
  • Contribute to process improvement and document control practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in structural steel and miscellaneous metals detailing
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced Excel skills (preferred)
  • Experience in automotive or manufacturing environments (preferred)
  • Strong written communication skills for proposals and RFIs
  • Ability to follow established procedures and collaborate within a team environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Office-based role with periodic visits to construction job sites
  • Exposure to active construction environments when performing field checks
  • Interaction with cross-functional teams including engineering and field personnel

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to walk construction sites, climb ladders, and navigate uneven terrain
  • Occasional exposure to construction-related conditions such as noise, heights, weather, and mechanical equipment
