Job description

Position Title: Senior Steel Estimator
Salary Range: $115,000-$155,000 DOE + Bonus + Auto Allowance
Take ownership of high-value structural steel estimates for complex manufacturing, automotive, power and heavy industrial projects ranging from multimillion-dollar builds to major large-scale developments. The Senior Steel Estimator will lead hard bids and negotiated proposals, perform detailed digital takeoffs, analyze drawings and specifications, develop competitive pricing, and collaborate with operations, suppliers, engineers, and clients to turn opportunities into successful projects.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on structural steel estimating experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing construction, strong technical judgment and the urgency and organization required to deliver accurate bids under demanding deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Lead structural steel estimates for manufacturing, automotive, power, energy and heavy industrial construction projects
  • Review drawings, specifications and bid documents and participate in pre-bid meetings to establish project scope and estimate requirements
  • Prepare detailed estimates, digital takeoffs, budgets and supporting documentation for hard bids, negotiated proposals and conceptual projects
  • Solicit and evaluate proposals from material suppliers for completeness, accuracy and competitiveness
  • Develop value-driven solutions based on cost, constructability, engineering, quality and material availability
  • Partner with preconstruction and operations teams to develop professional proposals, schedules, project narratives and supporting bid documentation
  • Support awarded projects through change-order pricing, contract issue resolution and other estimating needs
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, engineers, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers

Requirements
  • 2+ years of structural steel erection estimating experience within heavy industrial, manufacturing or automotive construction environments
  • Proven experience estimating large-scale structural steel projects, ideally with a self-performing contractor
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel construction, estimating practices, digital takeoffs, bidding and project documentation
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Construction Management preferred
  • Professional Engineer designation is a plus
  • Experience with digital estimating and construction platforms such as On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Autodesk, BuildingConnected, Viewpoint or similar systems
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and ability to remain focused while managing fast-moving deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, sense of urgency, low-ego approach and ability to collaborate effectively across teams
