Steel Erector โ€“ Lead Structural Assembly and Field Quality Control

Job Overview:

  • Company: Zak Welding & Custom Work, LLC.

  • Salary/Pay Rate: $25 - $40+ per hour (Depending on Experience).

  • Location: Detroit, MI.

  • Job/Employment Type: Full Time.

  • Schedule: 7:00 AM โ€“ 5:00 PM, Weekdays.

  • Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: AWS Certified, OSHA 10 or 30, Fall Protection Certification.

The Opportunity: You will be the driving force behind the safe and precise assembly of structural steel systems on active construction sites. This role combines heavy-duty field erection with high-level quality management, ensuring that every beam and column is set to exact structural tolerances.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Execute the erection of structural beams, columns, and joists in strict accordance with project drawings.

  • Lead field rigging and bolt-up operations while maintaining rigorous safety standards at heights.

  • Interpret Structural and Shop drawings to ensure perfect alignment and sequencing of steel components.

  • Enforce job site Quality Control programs and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) to prevent structural deficiencies.

  • Perform on-site weld inspections and verify compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).

  • Maintain detailed field reports and documentation regarding inspections, safety compliance, and corrective actions.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in structural steel erection and field fabrication.

  • Proven proficiency in rigging, alignment, and working on active, high-elevation construction sites.

  • Deep understanding of shop processes including cutting, fitting, and surface coatings.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex Structural Drawings, PQRs, and technical specifications.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Advanced experience in developing site-specific Quality Control (QC) programs.

  • Extensive background in industrial and government-scale structural projects.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience coordinating between shop supervisors and field crews.
