The Lumistella Company is a global intellectual property company dedicated to bringing Santa's North Pole to life for children around the world through consumer products, original entertainment and brand experiences. We are home to the most iconic and beloved Christmas brands of this generation including The Elf on the Shelf, Elf Pets, and Elf Mates.
The Senior Director of CPG/Product Design is the strategic and creative lead responsible for guiding the development of Lumistella's product designs from early-stage concept translation through to refined, review-ready visualization. Leading both the Industrial Design and Toy Design teams, this role ensures that all product outputs reflect the emotional storytelling, character integration, entertainment content and commercial focus of the Santaverse, while supporting manufacturing feasibility and production-readiness.
This individual collaborates closely with the Concept & Ideation team to ensure product design respects upstream creative intent, and partners with the Product Development team to ensure seamless transition into engineering, sourcing, and vendor alignment. They are a hands-on design leader who combines creative vision with technical precision to deliver brand-right, high-impact product expressions across core, seasonal, and licensed lines.
The Senior Director of CPG/Product Design will:
  • Lead the development of product designs across categories ensuring they are emotionally resonant, brand-aligned, and commercially scalable.
  • Translate upstream concept inputs (e.g., sketches, storyboards, seasonal themes) into dimensional product designs that balance visual storytelling with function and manufacturability.
  • Oversee the Industrial Design and Toy Design teams, providing day-to-day direction, creative feedback, and mentorship.
  • Drive the review, refinement, and stakeholder alignment process, collaborating cross-functionally to achieve internal approvals, line integration, and timeline clarity.
  • Ensure design outputs reflect both the Santaverse's worldbuilding and the product's physical interaction goals, integrating tactile play, form hierarchy, and consumer delight.
  • Collaborates with the Concept and Ideation team on the review of concept decks, seasonal product visualizations, and pitch presentations to ensure alignment across all product and packaging.
  • Deliver robust product visualizations including concept sketches, CADs, 3D renders, and mockup inputs.
  • Collaborate with the Structural Packaging team to align packaging form with product design, ensuring dimensional harmony and storytelling cohesion.
  • Support product storytelling within sell-in tools, retail mockups, and cross-functional merchandising planning.
  • Act as the conduit between creative ideation and product development, providing clear, execution-ready deliverables to Product Development and Sourcing Teams.
  • Maintain awareness of materials, manufacturing techniques, and innovation opportunities in the CPG/toy space.
  • Key Interfaces
    • Concept & Ideation Team: Collaborates to ensure product designs reflect early creative direction and storytelling goals.
    • Packaging Design Team: Partners on form/fit alignment and unified product-package experiences.
    • Product Development Team: Hands off final tech packs with detailed designs and renderings for costing, sampling, and production feasibility.
    • Creative Operations & Program Management: Ensures review cycles, deliverables, and milestones are aligned and trackable.
    • Sales, Licensing, and Retail Strategy: Supports line planning and retail visualization as needed.

  • 10+ years of experience in product design, industrial design, or toy design, preferably in licensing, entertainment, or storytelling-driven brands.
  • Robust design portfolio demonstrating dimensional storytelling, surface development, and product visualization.
  • Experience managing and mentoring design teams and delivering collaborative design reviews with stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with materials, finishes, user interaction, and manufacturing processes across consumer goods.
