Overview

Flad is a national architectural firm with ten offices across the country, specializing in science, healthcare, academic, and workplace spaces. Our in-house structural engineering team provides support to architectural teams to enable project vision and design objectives with unique and integrated structural solutions. This position is responsible for structural design and coordination from inception to completion including document preparation, structural system selection, and direct collaboration with clients and consultants. Flad is a team of creative, intelligent, energetic people who help our clients tackle the issues that change people's lives.
How will your days be spent
  • This position will work on projects that vary in size and complexity.
  • Design structural systems including cast-in-place, precast and post-tensioned concrete, structural steel, masonry and wood for a variety of commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.
  • Perform structural system selection studies and select appropriate systems.
  • Participate in the coordination of architectural, specifications, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines.
  • Provide guidance to Structural Technicians and Designers by assigning work, answering questions and checking work for accuracy. Work with Technicians to provide appropriate information and details to develop documents.
  • Participate in construction site visits and perform general CA phase duties including shop drawing review, submittals, change orders, addendums and RFI's.
  • Assist in coordination of staff activities to assure the project budget, schedule and quality goals are achieved. Schedule design reviews with the Senior Structural Engineer or Director of Structural Engineering as appropriate to ensure quality standards. Help maintain structural project schedules and budgets, recognizing additional services and alerting appropriate senior structural staff.

What you bring to this role
Experience:
  • Minimum of three years of recent and relevant experience in structural design of buildings required. Experience with science, healthcare, academic, and workplace spaces preferred.

Software:
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., RAM, RISA, etc.) and Revit required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office required.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering required. Master's degree preferred.
  • PE or SE registration required.
  • Sustainability accreditation preferred.
