Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Structural Engineer with a focus on modular solutions, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and overseeing the construction of structures and systems. Your primary duties will include ensuring that the TAS products meet all safety, regulatory, and performance standards. You will collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and installation teams to deliver high-quality modular products that are structurally sound and fit for purpose.  Typical products include datacenter infrastructure such as data halls and electrical modules, and utility infrastructure such as chiller plants, cooling tower structure, and central utility plants, and any related products as well as foundation designs for various jobsite conditions as specified by customers. The position requires close interface with Project Engineers and Project Managers, Draftsmen/Designers, and with service engineers and field technicians.  The Structural Engineer provides all structural engineering and design functions, including solicitation of technical content, associated with preparing all customer and fabrication drawings.  This position reports to the Director of Engineering.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and analyze structural designs for modular equipment, including steel frames, supports, foundations, and connections.
  • Work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate structural elements with other systems.
  • Utilize engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit) to create detailed drawings and simulations.
  • Conduct structural analysis using finite element methods (FEM) to ensure the integrity of modular units under various loading conditions.
  • Evaluate materials and construction methods to optimize structural performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with the manufacturing team to ensure designs are feasible for production and assembly.
  • Coordinate with the manufacturing team and perform shopfloor and site visits as-necessary to ensure designs are feasible for production, assembly, transportation, and operation.
  • Exercise independent evaluation and judgment
  • May supervise engineers, designers, and technicians on assigned work.
  • Review and approve drawings, specifications, and project documentation. Checks manufacturers’ prints and coordinates them with TAS drawings
  • Maintains a thorough, current knowledge of new and innovative techniques in the civil/structural engineering field and modular construction technique.
  • May perform studies, preparation of specifications, evaluation of proposals, and development of estimates.
  • Participate in R&D activities to develop new modular systems and improve existing designs.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by TAS.

 

JOB SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of ASCE, AISC, IBC and other structural and building codes is a plus.
  • Must have a “can do” attitude.
  • Must be able to juggle multiple needs from customers (internal & external).
  • Must be proficient in technical writing and comprehensive documentation.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year engineering program. A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • The candidate must be able to perform their own design and drafting work, but must also possess the ability to work with subordinate designers and drafters to communicate design principles and to manage the drawing generation process

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year engineering program. A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and clients.

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Masters degree
  • Interest in pursuing a PE license
  • Previous college or internship experience with Stru-cad, STAAD-Pro, or other simulation software, engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit), Excel, and other computer skills.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.  Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading.  The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
