The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Charlotte office and play a key role in its continued growth. You'll lead complex and diverse structural projects, mentor engineers, strengthen client relationships, and help expand Bennett & Pless' presence in the market.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading projects and teams while remaining actively involved in structural design. What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and analysis of structural systems for new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse projects across multiple market sectors.
  • Manage structural engineering projects and lead project teams, ensuring successful delivery through compliance with applicable codes, client requirements, budgets, schedules, and Bennett & Pless QA/QC standards.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and other project partners throughout all phases of design and construction.
  • Perform site visits, structural assessments, investigations, and construction milestone reviews.
  • Develop cost-effective engineering solutions, respond to RFIs, and support construction administration activities.
  • Mentor and oversee junior engineers and designers by providing technical guidance, coaching, and quality reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 10+ years of structural engineering experience.
  • Experience managing structural engineering projects, leading project teams, and successfully balancing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective client and team relationships.
  • Experience designing steel and concrete structures, including low- to mid-rise buildings with shallow foundation systems.
  • Proficiency with Revit and structural analysis/modeling software used in the design of building structures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with masonry, high wind/seismic design, wood design, and/or other specialized structural systems.
  • Experience supporting business development through proposal development, technical content, or responses to RFQs/RFPs.
