Position Overview

GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in structural engineering, dedicated to delivering innovative and efficient solutions for a wide range of construction projects. We are seeking a talented Senior Structural Technical Manager to join our dynamic team.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, extensive industry knowledge, and excellent leadership and mentorship skills to inspire and develop the growing engineering team.

  • Mentor and manage Structural Designers I, Structural Designers II, Structural Design Engineers, Structural Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Technical Managers.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the management and production of drawings, specifications, and calculations during a projectโ€™s design phase life cycle from conceptual design to completion of construction documents under reduced supervision and coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Assist in review of deliverables to ensure the scope and quality standards are met throughout projectโ€™s life cycle.
  • Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of engineering deliverables, including technical calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • In coordination with project managers, oversee and be responsible for the development of structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials.
  • Perform and/or review calculations and analyses and develop and implement company engineering procedures and best practices to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes and regulations. Working knowledge of all relevant codes.
  • Utilize CAD software, including Tekla Structures, and other tools to create 2D drawings and 3D models.
  • Collaborate with and help manage team members, including engineers, modelers and detailers, to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality design solutions within budget.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques and technologies by actively participating in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement, and lead initiatives to drive continuous improvement within the company, especially as it relates to technical expertise and process.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members, promoting their growth and technical proficiency.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
  • Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques.
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems, propose solutions and make informed decisions, including critical thinking and troubleshooting.

Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Structural focus.
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred; maintain an NCEES record.
  • Fifteen years of experience in building structural engineering.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work from a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to travel for site visits at various project locations nationwide.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds if needed.
Job Status

Pay Range

Anticipated starting pay range: between $125,000 - $196,000
