In Canada, our Bridge department has offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Quebec City. AtkinsRealis also has a large international presence with over 700 bridge professionals globally, and involvement in some of the most complex structures in the world. The Bridges Department - Central Region, is looking for a Structural Engineer (Bridges) for our team in Ontario. Reporting to the Manager, Bridges - Central Region, the engineer will be responsible for carrying out project management and structural lead in the field of bridges and structural engineering projects. This will include the development, analysis, design, evaluation, inspection, and execution of various projects.

Your role
  • Reporting to the Manager, Bridges - Central Region, the Engineer will be responsible for carrying out engineering activities in the field of bridges and engineering structures, such as the development, design, inspection, evaluation (Load Rating), and execution of various projects.

  • Supports and develop the technical knowledge of professional (engineers and technicians) including carrying out studies, structural analysis, and evaluations and load ratings.

  • Carry out preliminary and detailed structural design including tender preparation for the construction and/or rehabilitation of bridges and other structures.

  • Applying advanced engineering techniques and tools for solution of complex engineering challenges.

  • Supporting and guiding employees (Junior engineers and technicians) assigned to projects.

  • Advise management and team lead and collaborate with other disciplines.

  • Preparation of proposals and participation in business development including publications and conferences.

  • Preparing structural designs and evaluations, and contract packages for the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) with key Clients (MTO, Metrolinx, Municipalities and TTC), including current Ministry policies, procedures, standards, specifications, and manuals.

About you
  • Degree in Civil Engineering (preferably with a structural major). Registered as Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with PEO, and in good standing.

  • 7+ years of experience in engineering practice in analysis and design of various types of bridge and transportation structures; railway (LRT and heavy rail) structures is an asset.

  • Experience with or have some knowledge of reviewing condition survey reports and making recommendations for rehabilitation strategy.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering projects with variety of complexity, type of bridge, size and scope.

  • Experience with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Code.

  • Experience with reviewing condition survey reports and making recommendations for rehabilitation strategy.

  • Experience in preparing structural designs and evaluations, and contract packages for the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO), including current Ministry policies, procedures, standards, specifications, and manuals.

  • Experience with key clients including MTO, Metrolinx, Municipalities and TTC.

  • Proficient in SAP 2000, CSI Bridge, MIDAS, Staad Pro, ETABS, Bentley ProjectWise and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Good oral and written English communication skills essential, with excellent organizational and time management skills.
