In this role, youll be responsible for creating structural schemes for typical construction types, with understanding of design, construction, and cost factors, while coordinating and resolving issues with architects, other consultants, and contractors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to creating and comparing structural schemes
  • Contributes to basis of design and design strategy documents
  • Carries out design tasks across wide range of common design elements
  • Carries out construction reviews across wide range of construction elements
  • Delegates and leads others in carrying out design tasks and construction reviews
  • Presents structural schemes to architects and other engineers
  • Coordinates structural design with architectural and non-structural engineering requirements
  • Coordinates construction-stage solutions with contractor and design team
  • Resolves individual design conflicts between structural and other requirements
  • Provides solutions to issues arising from construction errors and unforeseen site conditions
  • Provides technical mentoring to more junior engineers
  • Reads contracts for own projects
  • Sets and maintains project budgets
  • Maintains up-to-date data in project management software
  • Prepares monthly invoices
  • Manages and chairs internal project meetings
  • Maintains minutes for internal and external project minutes
  • Organizes project documentation in accordance with QA/QC procedures
  • Coordinates with BIM staff
  • Manages project scope and additional services
  • Collaborates with other project managers to resolve workload issues and conflicting deadlines

What you bring to the table:

  • Degree (bachelors or above) in civil/structural engineering.
  • Minimum four years of relevant structural engineering experience, including a minimum of one year of construction-stage experience.
  • P.Eng. Designation.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare, read, and interpret technical documentation independently.
  • Understands structural concepts, loads, systems and elements for all common building conditions.
  • Ability to draw structural diagrams explaining load paths, internal forces, and deflected shapes for common systems and elements.
  • Ability to draw connection details for common elements in each main structural material.
  • Familiarity with building and material code provisions, including derivation of gravity and lateral loads.
  • Hands-on project experience in design and detailing of common systems and elements in each main structural material, including lateral systems.
  • Understands general construction methods in common materials based on direct construction-phase experience.
  • Understands costs of typical structural materials and building types.
  • Proficient in using and troubleshooting common design software.
