Job Description
AECOM Water is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our busy Albuquerque, New Mexico office. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and have four years of experience in the Structural Engineering field. Technical expertise in structural design codes is also necessary. The candidate should be capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting project schedules. Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software such as AutoCAD, STAAD, RAM Elements, Revit, etc., is expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and prior experience in water industry structural design would be advantageous.
Responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to):
  • Lead and manage structural engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Perform advanced structural analysis and design calculations for complex structures.
  • Develop and review structural drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Develop project/task proposals and assist with project invoicing.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure project success.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to the team.
  • Ensure compliance with local and national building codes and standards.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing structures and monitor construction progress
  • Utilize advanced structural analysis software and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations to communicate design concepts and solutions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and innovative structural engineering practices.
  • Collecting and analyzing field data.
  • Using computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Performing work by agreed-upon budget and schedule under supervision.
  • Travel to other states for fieldwork on 1 to 3-day trips, accounting for up to 20% of the overall time.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

Preferred Requirements
  • Prior experience in water industry structural design is highly advantageous.
  • Proficiency in advanced structural analysis software such as STAAD and RAM Elements.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
  • Strong skills in finite element analysis and Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Experience with various building materials including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
  • In-depth understanding of building codes, standards, and seismic design principles
  • Experience in project leadership and team management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects efficiently
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
