Join DES as a Structural Engineer and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our structural team. In this role, you'll not only develop structural designs for diverse projectsโ€”spanning healthcare, life science, office, and education sectorsโ€”but also act as a mentor and guide, fostering the growth of our talented team of engineers. Your ability to combine technical expertise with strong business acumen, leadership, and communication skills will be essential to building a high-performing, collaborative team


  • Evaluate the impact of project objectives on the structural design and implement appropriate solutions
  • Responsible for meeting structural engineering design schedules and budgets
  • Provide technical leadership by formulating and effectively communicating structural design solutions to clients and the project team
  • Lead the creation of precise and comprehensive construction documents, guaranteeing accuracy through to completeness
  • Team with Project Managers on timelines, budget and additional services
  • Prepare structural engineering specification sections
  • Develop compelling fee proposals and represent the firm in client marketing interviews and presentations
  • Actively participate in professional development and mentoring by creating and growing industry connections through involvement in professional and marketing organizations

Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid California Structural Engineer license, coupled with at least 10 years of increasing responsibility within the structural engineering field
  • Experience producing structural designs and calculations for a wide variety of building and construction types
  • Keen interest in the technical challenges and advancements of seismic engineering design
  • Passion for contributing to a variety of project types, including both building retrofits and new constructions
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with architects and owners
  • Comprehensive understanding of all design and construction phases
  • OSHPD and DSA experience a plus
  • Strong technical skills in CAD and Revit-based project workflows
  • Proficient in both manual and computerized analysis methodologies
  • Solid foundation in structural engineering fundamentals and their implementation in professional practice
  • Bachelorโ€™s or masterโ€™s degree with concentration in Structural Engineering
  • Work onsite in our Redwood City office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, full time on site is strongly preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without any restrictions or requirement of sponsorship now or in the future
