Many firms offer structured training programs, regular feedback sessions, and opportunities to participate in project meetings, which help you gain practical experience. EITs are often encouraged to attend workshops, pursue continuing education, and prepare for the PE (Professional Engineer) exam. This supportive environment is designed to help you progress toward licensure and greater responsibilities within the company.

What is a Structural Engineer EIT?

A Structural Engineer EIT (Engineer-in-Training) is a graduate engineer who has completed a degree in civil or structural engineering and passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. This designation indicates that the individual is working toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and typically works under the supervision of a licensed PE. Structural Engineer EITs assist in designing, analyzing, and inspecting buildings, bridges, and other structures to ensure their safety and compliance with codes. They gain practical experience as part of the required steps to achieve full licensure. The EIT certification signals a commitment to the engineering profession and ongoing professional development.

Assist with finite element analysis and system evaluations
Coordinate structural systems with architectural, mechanical, and civil disciplines
Collaborate with project managers, drafters, and construction teams
Participate in internal design meetings and constructability discussions
Support project scheduling, material specifications, and cost estimating efforts
Conduct site visits and assist with field observations as needed
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
EIT certification required
1 to 3 years of structural engineering experience required
Strong understanding of load paths, structural systems, and detailing principles
Proficiency in structural analysis software such as RISA, ETABS, SAP2000 or similar
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit required
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work full time in our Fort Myers office
Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast paced team environment
