General Purpose:

The Medical Director is a combination clinical care (70%) and administrative/leadership position (30%). The Medical Director is a healthcare provider who serves as:

  • A supervisor and clinical mentor to medical providers working in the health center(s) assigned to them.
  • A medical counterpart to the Clinic Director, helping to balance the delivery of quality integrated healthcare with creating and maintaining a productive and meaningful work environment.
  • Quality champion for the clinic through implementing new and updated clinical policies and procedures and adhering to the goals of the annual Clinical Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Plan.
  • A liaison between clinical/medical leadership, executive leadership, and STRIDE’s healthcare providers in the field.
  • A STRIDE clinical care delivery expert who engages in and brings this perspective into projects and agency initiatives that impact or involve STRIDE’s health care services.
  • This position is assigned 0.3 Admin FTE (12h/week). This admin time can be modified in discussion with leadership as appropriate for the balance of leadership for the role and patient care.


This role will oversee medical operations and provider teams at our Oneida and Hampden & Chambers clinics.



Essential Duties/Position Responsibilities:

  • Promotes team-based integrated clinical care across our healthcare delivery system.
  • Collaborates with all departments in support of the organizational mission, vision, and strategic plan.
  • Understands the need to balance mission, margin, quality, wellness, and productivity within our healthcare delivery system.
  • Provides strong local leadership, mentoring, coaching, and support to all direct reports and internal partners.
  • Understands HIPAA and when to share and release information to health center and non-leadership staff and discloses information accordingly.
  • With the area Nursing and Operations leaders (triad) and with central STRIDE leadership, accountable for the clinic budget for visit productivity, labor productivity and revenue cycle.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Patient Care

  • Provides direct health care services to patients, as per specific job description for specialty.
  • Acts as a model clinical provider.
  • Provides highly efficient and high-quality clinical care, meeting or exceeding STRIDE’s productivity and quality targets.
  • Is highly efficient with STRIDE’s EHR system.


Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision and guidance to medical providers, providing clinical direction to those within specialty.
  • Motivates and coaches medical providers to provide attentive, efficient patient care and customer service, assessing employee performance and offering concrete feedback, leadership development, and goal setting for improvement as needed.
  • Regularly meets with providers and clinical staff to provide support. Maintains an open-door policy for logistical issues or concerns.
  • Completes provider/supervisor evaluations.
  • Attract, develop, motivate, and retain an outstanding, diverse, high-performing workforce through effective leadership, recruitment, training, development, and succession planning.
  • Drives strategic medical provider hiring at health care center(s), and coordinates onboarding and clinical ramp-up with Medical Administrative Coordinator.
  • As a member of local health center leadership, collaborates closely with Operations, Nursing, Behavioral Health, and Dental teams daily to evaluate and balance health center clinical and support staff needs and helps to assure successful day to day clinical functions and quality care.
  • Maintain clear lines of communication with local clinic operations, with direct reports, and with medical leadership.
  • Drives initiatives for process and quality improvement at the health center(s).
  • Assesses and reports progress in meeting health center(s) objectives.
  • Establishes appropriate goals and analyzes, appraises, and interprets performance.
  • Knowledgeable about standards of care and ensures STRIDE’s clinical practice meets those.
  • Participates in continuing healthcare education seminars, workshops, and research literature review.
  • Attends appropriate staff meetings and all other meetings as assigned. Provides framework and participates, as necessary, in meetings led by direct reports.

Education and Experience:

  • Training from accredited educational institution or school as MD or DO.
  • Board certification in primary care specialty, as applicable.
  • Previous experience working as a primary care provider in a clinical setting is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in area of specialty desired.
  • Must hold an FTE of 1.0.
  • CO License or eligible for licensure.
  • DEA License or eligible for licensure.
  • BLS Certification.
  • For Internal Applicants: STRIDE tenure of 12 months minimum.


Skills & Expertise

  • Demonstrated knowledge in primary care specialty.
  • Ability to respond to the needs and concerns of the full range of STRIDE’s diverse patient and staff population effectively and sensitively.
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to defuse upset patients or personnel.
  • Ability to collaborate with other providers and clinical staff to develop continual quality improvement.
  • Ability to identify barriers to the full capacity performance of others and provide leadership, coaching, training, or other assistance, as indicated.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information ethically and responsibly.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with electronic medical records (EMR) system.
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of patients, employees, and business information.
  • Ability to interact positively and build rapport with patients, coworkers, and/or external contacts; maintains an open line of communication, as appropriate.
  • Intentionally cultivates meaningful relationships with staff and patients; is visible, accessible, and responsive throughout the workplace to produce faster and more effective results that help the organization deliver excellent patient care.


Working Environment and Physical Activities:

The physical requirements of this role include the ability to lift up to 40 lbs, perform activities such as sitting, standing, bending, walking, and climbing, as well as extensive overhead and repetitive reaching. Mental demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills. The position does not require tasks like crawling, heavy lifting, or specialized vision abilities but does require physical movement and mental focus for tasks performed consistently.



We offer a competitive salary range of $203,788 - $233,216.00 based on years of experience, along with an additional of $15,000 leadership Stipend.

This range reflects STRIDE’s good faith estimate of potential compensation at the time of posting. The final salary for the selected candidate will be determined based on several factors, including experience, education, budget, internal equity, specialty, and training.
