Strength Coach Intern information

What is a strength coach intern?

A Strength Coach Intern is an individual, often a student or recent graduate, who assists certified strength and conditioning coaches in developing and implementing training programs for athletes. The internship provides hands-on experience in areas such as exercise instruction, performance testing, and facility management. Interns gain practical knowledge by working closely with athletes, learning about injury prevention, proper lifting techniques, and program design. These positions are typically unpaid or stipend-based and serve as a stepping stone into a career in sports performance or coaching.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a strength coach intern?

To thrive as a Strength Coach Intern, you need a foundational understanding of exercise science, strength training principles, and basic program design, often supported by coursework in kinesiology or a related field. Familiarity with weight room equipment, workout tracking software, and certifications like CPR/AED are typically expected. Strong communication, adaptability, and a willingness to learn help interns connect with athletes and take direction from senior coaches. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring safe, effective training sessions and for building a successful career in strength and conditioning.

What are some common challenges faced by strength coach interns, and how can they be overcome?

Strength Coach Interns often face challenges such as adapting to fast-paced environments, effectively communicating with athletes and coaches, and balancing multiple responsibilities like assisting with training sessions, maintaining equipment, and tracking athlete progress. Overcoming these challenges involves being proactive, staying organized, and seeking feedback from experienced staff. Building strong relationships within the team and being open to learning from both successes and mistakes are key to professional growth in this role.

Exercise Science Performance Coaching Internship

Hands-On Experience in Training, Leadership & Business
10-Week Internship | Minimum 10 Hours Per Week | College-Credit Eligible | $500 Completion Stipend

Unlike many internships where students spend most of their time observing from the sidelines, the Resultz Only Fitness Exercise Science Performance Coaching Internship is intentionally designed for practical study, hands-on application, and professional growth.
This is an opportunity for Exercise Science students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it in a real-world personal training environment—while gaining valuable experience in the business, leadership, and operational side of the fitness industry.
As an intern, you won't simply watch personal trainers work with clients. You'll be immersed in the day-to-day operation of a successful personal training facility and challenged to develop the skills needed to become a confident exercise professional, effective leader, and future fitness professional, business operator, or entrepreneur.
A STRUCTURED 10-WEEK DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE

This is a 10-week internship requiring a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week.
The internship is designed to support academic internship requirements and provide eligible students with practical experience that may be applied toward college internship credit, subject to approval by the student's university and academic program.
Throughout the 10 weeks, interns will progress from learning and observation into supervised practical application and increasing levels of responsibility based on demonstrated competency.
Our goal is not simply to provide internship hours. We want students to understand why we do what we do, learn how to apply Exercise Science principles in a real training environment, and develop the professional skills required to work successfully with real clients.
WHAT YOU'LL EXPERIENCE

Your internship will provide exposure to multiple areas of the fitness profession and business, including:
Exercise Science in Action
Apply principles of exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, program design, movement assessment, exercise technique, and client progression in a practical setting.
Personal Training & Performance Coaching
Observe, assist, and progressively take on greater responsibility in delivering exceptional training experiences as your knowledge, confidence, and competency develop.
Client Experience & Communication
Learn how to build relationships, communicate effectively, motivate clients, provide appropriate coaching and feedback, and create an environment where people want to succeed.
Leadership Development
Develop confidence, professionalism, accountability, communication skills, and the ability to positively influence and lead both clients and teammates.
Facility Operations
Gain firsthand experience with the systems, processes, professional standards, and daily responsibilities involved in operating a successful personal training facility.
Business & Entrepreneurship
Learn what happens behind the scenes of a fitness business, including sales, marketing, client retention, scheduling, financial considerations, team development, and sustainable business growth.
Management & Operations
Gain insight into what it takes to operate and lead a successful personal training facility—from serving clients and developing a team to managing systems and making sound business decisions.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for students who want more than an internship requirement checked off their degree plan.
Strong candidates are:
  • Coachable and eager to learn
  • Dependable, disciplined, and accountable
  • Professional in their appearance, communication, and conduct
  • Energetic and comfortable interacting with people
  • Willing to receive feedback and apply it
  • Interested in applying Exercise Science beyond the classroom
  • Motivated to become an exceptional coach and exercise professional
  • Interested in developing leadership and business skills
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Capable of taking increasing ownership and responsibility as they develop
Previous personal training or coaching experience is helpful but not required.
Certifications matter. Experience matters.
Character, work ethic, professionalism, and coachability matter more.

INTERNSHIP COMMITMENT & $500 COMPLETION STIPEND

This internship requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week for 10 weeks.
Students who successfully complete the internship and satisfy the established attendance, performance, professionalism, and program requirements will be eligible to receive a one-time $500 completion stipend at the conclusion of the 10-week internship.

Important Compensation Information: This internship does not provide an hourly wage or weekly/bi-weekly paycheck. The $500 stipend is a one-time payment awarded following successful completion of the internship requirements.

Specific stipend requirements and payment terms will be reviewed with selected interns before the internship begins.

FROM INTERN TO PERFORMANCE COACH

For the right individual, the internship doesn't have to end after 10 weeks.
Resultz Only Fitness is a growing company, and one of the purposes of our internship program is to identify and develop talented future Performance Coaches.
High-performing interns who demonstrate exceptional coaching potential, professionalism, reliability, communication skills, leadership, and alignment with our standards may be considered for part-time or full-time Performance Coach employment following successful completion of the internship.
Employment opportunities are based on individual performance, successful completion of the internship, available positions, and the staffing needs of Resultz Only Fitness at that time.
For students interested in building a career in the fitness industry, the internship can serve as the first step in a longer professional development pathway within our organization.

MORE THAN AN INTERNSHIP

We believe the best way to prepare students for a career is to give them real responsibility and real-world experience.
Our goal is not simply to help you complete your required internship hours. It is to help you discover what you are capable of, develop skills that extend beyond the classroom, and gain a deeper understanding of the many career opportunities available within the fitness industry.
Whether your goal is to become a personal trainer, Performance Coach, strength and conditioning professional, exercise specialist, fitness manager, facility leader, business operator, or entrepreneur, this internship will give you an inside look at what it takes to build a career in the industry.
You'll leave with more than completed internship hours. You'll leave with practical experience, professional development, and a better understanding of what it takes to coach people, lead others, and contribute to a successful fitness organization.

COME READY TO LEARN. LEAVE READY TO LEAD.
