Job description

Thomas Electrical, Inc., a company with a strong presence in the Southwest US, currently has an opening for highly a qualified Estimator/Project Manager.


Estimating

  • Solicit bid opportunities from ADOT, cities, municipalities, and private firms.
  • Perform bid takeoffs for projects.
  • Obtain quotes from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price.
  • Prepare construction budget by studying plans, identifying, and projecting costs.
  • Maintain an effective balance between pricing to win and optimizing margin.
  • Navigate agency or private sector websites and find projects bidding or bid result information.

Project Management

  • Prepare work to be accomplished by gathering information and requirements, setting priorities.
  • Generate concise and correct submittal packages as required for agency construction contracts
  • Plan required manpower, materials, equipment, tools, and any other services to ensure project schedule is maintained.
  • Administer the contractual aspects of the project to maximize profitability and minimize the risk for the company.
  • Compile accurate and complete project documentation.
  • Adhere to and comply with all accident prevention and safety requirements, including Health & Safety programs of Michiana Contracting, Inc./Thomas Electrical, Inc., OSHA, or other site-specific policies.
  • Develop and manage customer, engineer, subcontractor and vendor, relationships by proactively communicating and managing expectations.
  • Understand and manage project budgets to control costs
  • Work with other team members to successfully complete projects
  • Manage compliance with contracts, specifications, and regulations
  • Planning and scheduling resources for successful project completion
  • Supervising Project Personnel to ensure that planning and execution of the work is achieved.
  • Regularly review and forecast job costs.
  • Negotiate change orders.
  • Documentation of claims.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 years’ experience with Arizona DOT, traffic signal, highway/roadway lighting, and ITS installations
  • Solid decision making, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in a supervisory/leadership position with strong people skills
  • Knowledge and experience with, project planning, resource scheduling, procurement, and general project management principles.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Estimating Software (Heavy Bid preferred)
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and proposals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification preferred
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Certification preferred

This position required a person who has a problem solving attitude. Someone who can multitask and has a problem solving attitude. Communication skills are a must. Must be a team player and willing to work with the different divisions within TEI.
