About the Role
We are seeking a creative, experienced, and detail-oriented Executive Producer / Video Editor to join Rates & Barrels, The Athletic's flagship baseball show. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the show's production process, owning the audio and video post-production process, developing engaging rundowns and segments, growing audience and community engagement, and ensuring that each episode is of the highest quality. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience producing video and audio podcasts, extensive experience in being a lead video editor, a working knowledge of YouTube, Discord, and social platforms, and be passionate about baseball, storytelling and digital media.
Responsibilities
Show Production
  • Work as a one-person band to record the episode using Riverside or Streamyard (livestream specials).
  • Collaborate with the hosts on all elements of show creative, spanning full episodes as well as social content.
  • Run point on the show's entire production process from big picture / long-lead planning to rundown creation, and from running recordings to executing on final episode delivery.
  • Manage scheduling, coordination, and logistics to ensure smooth execution of all aspects of show production

Editing & Post- Production
  • Edit episode video and mix audio to produce high-quality content, and publish episodes to our distribution platforms, utilizing the tools available to amplify reach on platforms like YouTube.
  • Ensure consistency in style and sound quality across all segments.
  • Generate and integrate graphics in post.

Content Research & Segment Development
  • Conduct thorough research to identify compelling topics and trends relevant to our audience, and key stats for our on-air talent.
  • Help to develop innovative segments, series and formats that add value and drive listener engagement.

Digital Media & Social Integration
  • Identify social clips from full episodes for distribution on YouTube and other social channels.
  • Edit social clips.
  • Work closely with the show's hosts/producers to develop social first content.
  • Manage community building through Discord, YouTube, and other social channels.

Collaboration & Communication
  • Coordinate with hosts, guests, and team members to gather content and feedback.
  • Manage deadlines and provide regular updates on production progress.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience producing podcasts/shows.
  • 5+ years of experience editing video; proven proficiency with audio and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Audition, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar).
  • Strong research skills and the ability to develop creative content segments.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with YouTube platform dynamics and social media best practices.
  • A passion for digital storytelling and an eye for detail.

The annual base salary range for this role is $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location.
For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock. Benefits may include medical, dental and vision benefits, Flexible Spending Accounts (F.S.A.s), a company-matching 401(k) plan, paid vacation, paid sick days, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement and professional development programs.
