Job description

Be a Star at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts!

Baristas possess the knowledge and skills to create and sell handcrafted beverages based on company recipes to the customer. This is a great position for someone looking to get started in the customer service or hospitality fields. Work is split between our traditional coffee shop and concessions inside the theater lobby. Our Food and Beverage team is willing to train for this position and we promote from within.

Located in downtown Tampa, the Straz offers flexible hours, event-based schedules including evenings and weekends, and a team-based work environment. Straz benefits for part-time staff include employee discounts and a 403(b) plan.

Essential Functions:

  • Creates a friendly and welcoming environment for Center guests.
  • Makes recommendations, and answer questions regarding beverage recipes.
  • Provides excellent customer service in a professional manner.
  • Serves guests quickly and efficiently.
  • Prepares and serves coffee drinks consistent with the Center's standards.
  • Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper uniform and nametag.
  • Maintains cleanliness in all areas of workspace.
  • Reports all equipment problems and maintenance issues to Coffee Shop Manager.
  • Assists with restocking and replenishment of inventory and supplies in the Coffee Shop and coffee-related areas.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work nights, weekend, and some holidays.
  • Great communication skills, personable and friendly with customers.
  • Working knowledge of coffee or eagerness to learn.
  • Must possess basic math skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Barista in a full-service, high-volume restaurant preferred, but not required.
