AI Product Strategy and Automation Engineering Intern

Thread Bank

Nashville, TN • On-site

Full-time, Part-time, Internship

Posted 7 days ago

Job description

Who We Are
Thread Bank is a digital-first financial technology community bank that aims to enhance customer engagement through innovative solutions. Thread Bank offers a modern website, a CRM system, and a mobile app to simplify banking for businesses and individuals. Our embedded banking solution helps business technology platforms provide secure banking experiences. We also partner with other banks, credit unions, and FinTechs to integrate compliant financial solutions. Thread Bank values innovation, collaboration, and flexibility, offering excellent benefits and a family-friendly culture.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking an AI Product Strategy and Automation Engineering Intern who sits at the intersection of product management, software engineering, and business strategy. This role is ideal for a student who wants to build AI-powered tools and workflows that drive measurable business impact, while learning how to operate in a regulated banking environment where quality and compliance matter.
You will work in person in Nashville, TN, supporting an enterprise-wide efficiency and automation program across Embedded Banking, FCC, and data platforms. You will report to the Product Manager for AI Innovation and work under the broader direction of the Head of Digital Strategy, with direct exposure to senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
We are looking for people who thrive in a fast-paced, growth environment while remaining within regulatory boundaries. Thread Bank provides a unique opportunity to be a part of a high growth, cutting edge, fintech startup within the stable and profitable banking industry. This is an excellent opportunity for a student looking to gain hands-on experience with AI, automation, and product strategy.
What You'll Do
  • Design and build AI-powered workflows and automations using tools like n8n, integrating APIs, triggers, routing, approvals, notifications, and AI models into reliable end-to-end processes.
  • Support product discovery and strategy by conducting stakeholder interviews, translating pain points into clear problem statements, and helping prioritize automation opportunities based on impact, effort, risk, and confidence.
  • Measure and communicate impact by tracking hours saved, cycle time reduced, error rates lowered, and volume processed, and by preparing simple dashboards, one-pagers, and executive updates.
  • Engineer quality and governance into workflows, including confidence thresholds, human-in-the-loop review, logging, sampling, and escalation paths, in close partnership with compliance and risk teams.
  • Document and operationalize solutions, maintaining clear documentation, process maps, user stories, acceptance criteria, and training notes so automations are auditable, maintainable, and adopted by stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student (any class year: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior).
  • Structured thinking and strong writing skills, including prompt engineering: able to turn messy inputs into clear problem statements, requirements, and prompts that produce reliable outputs, with documented assumptions.
  • Comfort with AI-assisted development ("vibe coding"): able to use tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI coding assistants to prototype and build working software, validate results, and iterate quickly.
  • Ability to build and ship AI workflows using n8n or similar automation platforms (e.g., Zapier, Make, Power Automate), connecting APIs and services into functioning end-to-end processes.
  • Basic data literacy: comfortable working in Excel or Google Sheets, doing back-of-the-envelope sizing (e.g., volume per month, minutes per case, hours and dollars saved) with clear assumptions.
  • High ownership and bias toward action: demonstrated experience taking something from idea to working output, with attention to QA, documentation, and rollout.
  • Growth mindset, resilience, and commitment to continuous learning at the intersection of AI, product, and financial technology (fintech).

Preferred
  • Hands-on experience with n8n, Power Automate, Zapier, or Make.
  • Familiarity with Python, SQL, JSON, and reading API documentation.
  • Exposure to product management practices (requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria).
  • Interest in governance, risk, compliance, or other regulated environments.
  • Interest in management consulting, strategy consulting, or business operations.
  • Experience with or curiosity about AI/ML concepts, large language models, and responsible AI practices.

Assignment Details
  • 10-week internship
  • Location: Nashville, TN (in person)
  • Schedule: Part-time during the semester or full-time in Summer 2026
