The Role

Lumen is seeking a strategic and technically versatile Senior Lead Data Scientist to lead advanced analytics, AI-driven innovation, and decision intelligence initiatives across the Product organization. This role will serve as a bridge between traditional analytics, modern data science, and emerging AI technologies, transforming complex data into actionable insights, predictive models, and intelligent solutions that improve business outcomes. 

The ideal candidate combines deep analytical expertise with practical experience developing quantitative analytics models, automating workflows, and leveraging AI platforms to solve real-world business challenges. As the business continues to evolve, this individual will play a key role in defining new performance measurements, developing next-generation KPI frameworks, and enabling data-driven decision making through a combination of code-based and no-code solutions. 

This is a highly visible individual contributor role requiring strong business acumen, technical depth, and cross-functional leadership.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Lead Strategic Analytics: Partner with Product, Finance, Engineering, and Executive leaders to identify opportunities for advanced analytics, AI, and data-driven decision making.
  • Develop KPI & Measurement Frameworks: Define and evolve performance metrics that measure business value, operational efficiency, customer outcomes, and product success.
  • Drive Advanced Analytics: Build predictive models, forecasts, segmentation strategies, and optimization frameworks to uncover insights, risks, and growth opportunities.
  • Enable AI & Automation: Evaluate and implement AI-powered solutions, intelligent workflows, and automation capabilities that improve productivity and decision quality.
  • Champion Innovation & Experimentation: Lead proof-of-concepts and rapid testing of emerging technologies to validate business impact and accelerate adoption.
  • Deliver Data-Driven Insights: Translate complex analyses into actionable recommendations, dashboards, and executive-level narratives.
  • Automate Reporting & Processes: Design scalable analytics solutions, automated reporting, and workflow automation to improve efficiency and insight delivery.
  • Leverage Modern Technology Platforms: Utilize Python, SQL, AI-assisted development tools, Power Platform, and low-code/no-code solutions to accelerate outcomes.
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, Sales, Customer Success, and Data teams to align on priorities, methodologies, and business objectives.
  • Provide Thought Leadership: Promote analytics, AI literacy, experimentation, and data-driven decision making while mentoring stakeholders and team members on best practices.
What We Look For in a Candidate
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8+ years of experience in analytics, data science, business intelligence, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience translating complex business challenges into analytical solutions and measurable outcomes.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Experience developing predictive models, forecasting techniques, statistical analyses, and data-driven decision frameworks.
  • Experience creating KPI frameworks, business performance measurements, and executive reporting solutions.
  • Strong experience with business intelligence and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with both structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with AI and machine learning platforms, including large language models and generative AI technologies.
  • Experience developing AI-enabled workflows, intelligent automation solutions, or agent-based capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure AI, Azure OpenAI, Copilot Studio, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, Palantir Foundry, Palantir AIP, or similar modern analytics ecosystems.
  • Experience leveraging low-code and no-code technologies such as Power Platform, AI Builder, or workflow automation platforms.
  • Understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector search, knowledge-based AI systems, and modern AI architecture concepts.
  • Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation initiatives through data, analytics, and AI solutions.
  • Telecommunications or technology industry experience preferred. 
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
