What is a strategic system?

Strategic Systems refer to the processes, technologies, and frameworks that organizations use to align their information systems with long-term business goals. These systems are designed to support decision-making, improve efficiency, and provide a competitive advantage by integrating business strategy with technology solutions. Strategic Systems can include enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms, business intelligence tools, and other IT infrastructures that enable organizations to adapt to changing markets and achieve their objectives. Professionals in this field help businesses plan, implement, and manage these systems to ensure they support overall strategic goals.

How does a strategic systems professional typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Strategic Systems professionals frequently work cross-functionally, partnering with IT, operations, finance, and executive leadership to align technology initiatives with organizational goals. They are often responsible for facilitating communication between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure that systems implementations support broader strategic objectives. Regular meetings, project updates, and collaborative planning sessions are common, and success in the role often depends on strong interpersonal and project management skills. Effective collaboration helps drive innovation and ensures that system solutions deliver measurable value to the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a strategic systems analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Strategic Systems Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, systems thinking, and a background in business or information systems, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, data analysis tools like SQL or Tableau, and certifications such as CBAP or PMP are commonly required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help bridge technical solutions and business objectives. These competencies are vital for designing effective systems strategies that drive organizational efficiency and competitive advantage.

What is the difference between Strategic Systems vs Business Systems Analyst?

Re-posted yesterday

Job description

Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company with the mission of protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BATย aircraft, and Aechelon simulation and synthetic reality technologies. With offices and facilities across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, Shield AI's technology actively supports operations worldwide. For more information, visitย www.shield.ai. Follow Shield AI onย LinkedIn,ย X,ย Instagram, andย YouTube.ย

The Autonomous Pilot Integration team for expeditionary platforms builds autonomy solutions for V-BAT - an unmannedย aircraftย operatingย in expeditionary environments for ISR, target acquisition, communications, and multi-agent missions. The team also builds autonomy for X-BAT, a new platform under development by the aircraft team; for X-BAT, the team builds on top of the existing mission autonomy solution from the Strategic Systems (ACP) portfolio and works closely with the aircraft team on the flight-autonomy interface. We combine capabilities from the Autonomy Capabilities team (motion planning, tactics), the Perception team (e.g.,ย ViDAR, ATR), and theย HivemindSDKย to develop the autonomy software that runs on these platforms, then integrate, validate, and field it on the real hardware - for U.S. and international defense customers.ย

In this role, you'll develop new autonomy capabilities - including mission behaviors, platform-specific control (including VTOL transitions), multi-agent coordination, contingencies, and executive autonomy - and own major features from software-in-the-loop, to hardware-in-the-loop, to vehicle-in-the-loop, to live flight test.ย You'llย partner closely with the Aircraft team, Autonomy Capabilities, Perception, GCS, feature crews, and customer stakeholders to deliver mission-ready autonomy software and solve complex integration challenges. As a senior engineer,ย you'llย provide technical leadership across major capabilities, mentor teammates, influenceย architectureย and integration strategy, and help drive successful field deployments for both mature and emerging expeditionary platforms.ย

This team has a strong fielded-operator culture - long-endurance ISR missions, customer-driven workflow iteration, and demanding live exercises across multiple U.S. and international services.ย It'sย a hands-on role for engineers who want to see their softwareย operateย on realย aircraftย and directly support operators in the field.ย

What You'll Do:

Develop & Field Autonomyย - Develop and integrate autonomy software for V-BAT and X-BAT, including mission behaviors, platform-specific control,ย payloadย and sensor integration (e.g.,ย ViDAR, EO/IR), multi-agent coordination, contingencies, and executive autonomy. Own major features from software-in-the-loop through live flight testing.ย

Aircraft Team Partnershipย - Collaborate closely with the Aircraft team to integrate autonomy capabilities,ย validateย platform interfaces, coordinate hardware/software compatibility, and support release readiness.ย

Collaboration Across Teams & Partnersย - Partner with the Autonomy Capabilities, Perception, GCS, Strategic Systems (ACP), feature crews, and customer stakeholders to deliver integrated mission capabilities.ย

Technical Leadershipย - Ownย significant featuresย or subsystems, drive technical execution, mentor teammates, and contribute to design reviews and integration planning.ย

Pre-deployment Preparationย - Build, configure,ย validate, and prepare mission-ready systems while ensuring software, hardware, and operator workflows are ready for deployment.ย

On-site Test & Mission Supportย - Support flight tests, customer demonstrations, operator training, and deployment events through system bring-up, troubleshooting, and mission execution.ย

Hardware/Software Debuggingย - Diagnose integration issues across autonomy software, payload computers, embedded systems, and platform interfaces using simulation and operational testing.ย

Mission Data & Continuous Improvementย - Analyze mission data, drive root-cause analysis, and build tools and processes that improve integration efficiency and mission reliability.ย

C2 Interoperability & Standardsย - Implement andย validateย interfaces with GCS and command-and-control systems while supporting compliance with STANAG 4586, UCI, and OMS.ย

Travel Requirementย - Members of this team typically travel around 10-20% of the year to different office locations, customer sites, operator training events, flight tests, and integration exercises.ย

Required Qualifications:
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.ย ย

  • 5+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent advanced degree experience).ย ย

  • Strong C++ development experience in real-time or embedded systems.ย ย

  • Experience with Linux-based development and embedded systems.ย ย

  • Experience integrating complex software systems and troubleshooting across hardware/software boundaries.ย ย

  • Experience supporting system integration, testing, or field events.ย ย

  • Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.ย

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with unmannedย aircraftย or autonomous systems.ย ย

  • Experience with autonomy software, robotics, or vehicle control.ย ย

  • Experience with payload or sensor integration.ย ย

  • Python, Docker,ย CMake/Conan, or CI/CD experience.ย ย

  • Experience with military test events or defense customers.ย
