BBA Consultants has an established renewable power andenergy storage business line across Canada and is building its presence in theUnited States. BBA Consultants will strengthen its position in the UnitedStates and is poised for significant growth in the coming years.
In this business and technical leadership role, the Lead,Renewable Power Market (US), will be focused on the US and responsible for establishingand building client relationships, finding and developing business opportunitiesand being the face of BBA Consultants' brand in new regions.
The Lead, Renewable Power Market (US) willleverage his/her expertise, knowledge of the industry, client and vendor relationshipsand engineering experience to achieve BBA's objectives. This role will support the Director of the Wind & Solar business line to develop and implement our broader strategy for all regions.
This position will enable the growth of BBA's renewableenergy business with a specific focus on the following:
  • Establish, strengthen and grow client relationships
  • Define and implement strategy for growth in new regions
  • Support the implementation local growth strategies
  • Foster strong internal relationships and engagement with BBA Consultants' staff in the US (as well as Canada and globally)
  • Identify, develop and oversee of any new services, skillsets and tools

BBA is a matrix organization and the regional operationsteam in each key region will closely interface with the wind, solar &storage business line. The business line relies on BBA's operations teams toexecute mandates and projects, while at times directly managing and executingcertain strategic or novel projects.

Businessdevelopment and Strategic Planning
  • Maintain knowledge of the North American power market and renewable and energy storage project development trends
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and key stakeholders in the renewable energy and electricity sector in the United States (and globally)
  • Work closely with the VP International to orient and support local growth strategies
  • Support development, implementation and execution of the renewables and energy storage strategy and action plan
  • Identify target clients to build a sustainable client portfolio
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement
  • Positioning for upcoming opportunities, lead and/or support proposals and implement pursuit/capture strategies
  • Cross-sell the services of other divisions within other business lines and other regions where there is a value-add
  • Support the development of medium- and long-term pipeline forecast

Development ofCapabilities
  • Actively contribute to the building of competence and skills (recruitment, training, partnership, etc.)
  • Support the development of BBA's renewables service line in North America, with primary focus being growth in the US
  • Identify any capability gaps as compared to necessary market positioning and develop and implement a plan to close them in collaboration with BBA teams
  • Industry participation and thought leadership activities (white paper, panelist, presenter at conference, etc.)

Operations
  • Act as Client Account Manager, Project Director and/or technical mentor to BBA Consultants' staff for select strategic projects and with specific clients
  • Oversee internal teams for delivery and day to day execution of renewables projects
  • Work directly with BBA's operational teams across the United States (as well as Canada and globally) to ensure alignment between market opportunities, services in demand and map to a growth target and resourcing forecast
  • Leadership with BBA's operational teams to implement and maintain a sector-specific business approach including market intelligence, alignment and positioning
  • Provide expertise and guidance to both BBA's clients and project teams
  • Conduct technical reviews and oversee engineering and design activities within area(s) of expertise
  • Day to day execution of technical and strategic mandates based on areas of expertise and in coordination with BBA's internal disciplines located across the United States (as well as Canada and globally)

Summary of certifications and job requirements
  • Engineering degree (civil, structural, geotechnical or electrical discipline preferred), with a Professional Engineering registration in one or more jurisdictions in the United States
  • Minimum 15 years experience in the electric power sector with at least 5 years in renewable energy (wind/solar/battery energy storage), with broad sector knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of renewable energy (wind, solar, BESS) technologies and OEMs
  • Strong communications, interpersonal, relationship building skills
  • Extremely versatile and broad - thrives on a wide variety of tasks and challenges
  • Strong and demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Able to travel to domestically within the United States and international destinations (such as Canada, Peru and Chile)
  • Fluent in English
  • Project Management proficiency
  • Asset: Design/Construction/Commissioning supervision and/or coordination experience
  • Asset: Renewables owner's engineering and/or advisory (independent engineering)
  • Asset: Knowledge of permitting, interconnections and project development
  • Asset: Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation in multiple US States
