Job Summary

Brooks Construction is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Human Resources Coordinator to support a wide range of human resources and talent acquisition activities. This position plays a key role in recruiting, onboarding, employee support, HR administration, compliance, training coordination, and workforce engagement.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced construction environment, demonstrates exceptional professionalism and confidentiality, and enjoys building relationships with employees, candidates, labor union representatives, and company leaders. Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Coordinates recruiting activities for field and office positions including posting open positions on the company's website and various job boards.
  • Assists with reviewing applications and conducting initial candidate screenings.
  • Schedules interviews and coordinates hiring manager communications.
  • Participates in career fairs, workforce development events, trade school outreach, community recruiting initiatives, and develops strong relationships with key educators.
  • Leads the Company's High School Internship Program by developing relationships with local schools, recruiting and selecting interns, coordinating onboarding, supporting supervisors and mentors, monitoring intern progress, and facilitating a positive and meaningful internship experience.
  • Maintains applicant tracking system (ATS) records and candidate communications.
  • Coordinates all onboarding activities and conducts orientation for new hires.
  • Prepares and distributes onboarding documents and employment paperwork.
  • Coordinates pre-employment requirements and employment documentation.
  • Partners with labor unions regarding onboarding requirements, referrals, and workforce coordination as needed.
  • Maintains employee records and HR documentation with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Processes employee data changes and maintains HRIS records.
  • Assists with employment verifications, reporting, and HR correspondence.
  • Reviews and responds to all initial unemployment claims and notifies the HR Manager of any unfavorable determinations, appeals, hearing notices, or other actions requiring company response or attendance.
  • Supports employee communications and company-wide HR initiatives.
  • Responds to employee inquiries and direct concerns to the appropriate resources.
  • Assists with policy administration and compliance-related documentation.
  • Coordinates employee training programs and training records.
  • Maintains HR records in accordance with company policies and applicable employment laws.
  • Administers the Company's wellness program, including employee participation and progress.
  • Assists with audits, reporting requirements, and compliance initiatives.
  • Supports recordkeeping related to labor relations, workforce programs, and employment practices.
  • Helps ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations including maintaining bulletin boards and required posters.

  • Assists team members across departments as needed.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and company information.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions within established policies and procedures.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, including the ability to conduct new hire orientations, employee meetings, recruiting events, and career fairs.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize HRIS, ATS, and other human resources technology platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and business needs within a dynamic construction environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with both office and field personnel.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and HR compliance requirements, or the ability to quickly develop such knowledge.
  • Understanding of labor union environments, apprenticeship programs, and labor-management relationships, or the ability to learn and navigate these processes effectively.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, dependability, and accountability.

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recruiting, human resources, or related experience.
  • Experience using HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
  • Experience coordinating recruiting events, job fairs, and workforce development initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Human Resources experience within the construction, skilled trades, industrial, or other labor-intensive industries.
  • Experience supporting a unionized workforce, coordinating with labor unions, and administering provisions of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship programs, hiring hall processes, union onboarding requirements, and labor-management relationships.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer workstation.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Working Environment

  • Primarily office-based work at the Brooks Construction corporate office.
  • Regular interaction with employees, applicants, managers, labor representatives, vendors, and community partners.
  • Occasional travel to jobsites, plants, training events, schools, career fairs, and company locations.
  • May occasionally be exposed to outdoor construction environments.
