2026 Philharmonic Summer Camp Teaching Positions

The Fort Wayne Philharmonic is excited to kick off the inaugural "Summer Sounds" String Camp June 8-12 and July 13-17, 2026!


This camp is offered to students entering grades 2 through 5.
Each week of camp will be its own separate session, lasting 5 days, from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day. Daily schedules will include small group string instruction, large group string instruction,and other camp activities.


We are looking for enthusiastic and engaging individuals to fill the Camp Violin Instructorand Camp Helper positions and make this program a success.


Camp Violin Instructor Job Description

Camp Violin Instructors will be scheduled for specific rehearsal times within the camp day aligning with Philharmonic CBA guidelines for full and half service scheduling and pay. This position is open to all qualified applicants, and Philharmonic musicians are encouraged to apply. Contracts will be offered by week for the summer camp sessions; an instructor may be hired for one or both weeks, based on program needs and personnel availability.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead musical and instrumentalinstruction during scheduled group rehearsal sessions during the camp day
  • Work withPhilharmonicCommunity EngagementStaffto prepare curriculum and lesson plans forbeginner and/or intermediate levelviolin students, with age- and level-appropriate musical and technical learninggoals
  • Helpassignappropriatelysized instruments for each student to usewhileatcamp and superviseinstrumental care and handling
  • Help leadstudents performing ina final concert on the Friday afternoon of each week
  • Work with Philharmonic staff and Camp Assistants to provide a safe, welcoming environment and followprogramprocedures indirecting and supporting students
  • Attend training/orientation sessions asrequiredto work with camp students
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before scheduled rehearsal start time to ensure thatself,materials, and teaching space are readyfor students

Camp Helper Job Description

Camp Helpers will be hired as hourly staff to help supervise and assist throughout the camp day.

Responsibilities:

  • AssistPhilharmonic Summer Camp staff and violin instructorswith supervising and leading studentsthroughout the planned dailyschedule of music rehearsals, lunch and bathroom breaks,and other camp activities.
  • Help Philharmonic staff and instructors plan and manage physical space,equipmentand movement of students
  • Helpfacilitatefinal performanceeventfor students and families at the end of each camp week.
  • Work with Philharmonicstaff andinstructorsto provide a safe, welcoming environment and follow program procedures in directing and supporting students
  • Serve as a positive adult role model for camp studentswhile supporting the leadership and direction of camp staff and instructors
  • Attend training/orientation sessions asrequiredto work with camp students
  • Arrive at8:00 AM each morning to check in with staff and prepare for the day's activities.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience inworking with elementary students in an educational environment
  • Experience in musical ensemblesettingsand/or string playing isa plus
