Shop Assistant

Job Description:
The Shop Assistant (1) position is responsible for various tasks throughout the shop and warehouse. From preparation of parts for welders to handling finished products for shipping.

Role Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read work orders, simple part drawings, and understand verbal instruction.
  • Must be able to communicate and work well with others.
  • Good oral/written communication skills and basic math skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to be detail-oriented and pay close attention to accuracy and verbal directions.
  • Must be punctual and display good attendance.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Be available to work overtime when necessary.
  • Must be able to pass forklift certification.
  • Complete overhead crane operational training and be able to operate it safely.
  • Able to operate pallet jacks.
  • Be a self-starter that can stay on task and follow through for each assignment.
  • Display a professional attitude.
  • Be able to follow safety rules, safety procedures and all company policies and procedures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Preparation, handling, labeling, cleaning, painting, and shipping of materials and fabricated components, structures, and equipment.
  • Perform pre and post fabrication material preparation.
  • Perform and assist others in the tasks of fitting and welding.
  • Label materials with part numbers, job numbers, and P.O. numbers.
  • Make sure that machines and work area are clean, maintain and continued up-keep of facility, property, and equipment. Utilize workspace to be effective and efficient.                   
  • Submit detailed daily reports.
  • Wear PPE, hearing protection, vision protection, steel-toed shoes, and other appropriate protective clothing when necessary.
  • Perform and follow through with various tasks as instructed or assigned by the lead or supervisor.
  • Operate necessary equipment and use of various power tools, sander’s, drill presses saws, ironworkers, punches, torches etc.  

Other:

  • This position requires stooping, pushing, moving, and reaching overhead and requires the ability to lift 60 lbs. 
  • Occasional work outside in various weather conditions. This position requires you to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate noise levels.
