Job duties include reading and interpreting blueprints and building plans, getting and cutting stone materials, and making stones ready for floors, walls, and the interiors and exteriors of buildings. Qualifications for a career as a stone cutter vary depending on your employer. You can learn the skills of this masonry trade through an associate degree program, an apprenticeship, or on-the-job training.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a stone cutter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Stone Cutter, you need proficiency in manual and machine stone cutting techniques, strong mathematical skills, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience with stone cutting tools, such as saws, chisels, grinders, and sometimes CAD software or CNC machines, is typically required. Attention to detail, physical stamina, and strong problem-solving abilities are valuable soft skills for this role.
