Job Description Summary

The Steward sets the tone for Sonesta's mission by always goingabove and beyondfor our guests and coworkers. The role's responsibility is to clean, sanitize, transport and store pots and pans,china, glassware, silverware and other equipment to be used in the Food and Beverage department. The Steward is also responsiblemaintainingthe cleanliness of the kitchen, storage areas, dumpsterareaand back dock area according to established safety and sanitation guidelines.The ideal candidate has a passion for hospitality and providing exceptional service.

Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate dish machine, clean and sanitize pots and pans,china, glassware, flatware, kitchen equipment, and other utensils when needed.

  • Clean and sanitize the kitchen and food preparation areas.

  • Sweep and mop all kitchen floors and other assigned areas when needed.

  • Collect and empty trash from designated areas into the hotel dumpster.

  • Clean, organize and sanitize loading dock.

  • Fill allwashing stations with hand soap,sanitizerand paper towel.

  • Maintain and refill coffee station in the Dinerwith all condiments

  • Adhere toestablishedsafety and sanitation guidelines.

  • Adhere to uniform and grooming standards.

  • Perform other duties or projects as requested by management.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of forcefrequentlyor constantlyto lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  • Frequent bending,kneelingand reaching.

  • Ability to stand duringentireshift.

  • Must be able to tolerate extreme temperatures -i.e.freezers, loading dock

  • Must be ableto toleratehot temperaturesin excess of110 degrees neardishmachine, when assigned for an entire shift.

  • Must be able to tolerate the use of certain chemicals for cleaning and sanitizing.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Must be flexible toworkvariable days of the week to include weekends and holidays.

  • Must be flexible to work variable shifts (days, nights, overnights)

Education and Experience:

  • Stewardingexperience in hotels is preferred.


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Other:

  • Relevant experience in restaurant or hotel food preparation preferred.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Prioritization and time management skills.

  • Able to work quickly without compromising quality.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision andmaintaina high levelof performance.

  • Attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow employees.

Health and Safety:

  • Follow safe work procedures as outlined in Departmental Policy and Procedures manuals,including the use of personal protective equipment.

  • Know andcomply withall Occupational Health & Safety regulations,as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ministry ofLabour.

  • Report all injuries or illnesses to a supervisor or managerimmediately.

  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee by bringing health and safety concerns or issues to the attention of the committee.
