Job description

At STERIS and within its customers, the primary responsibility of the Perioperative Support Liaison is to provide integrated clinical and technical on-site Customer support, consultation, and management of medical devices (surgical instruments/devices, video equipment, and other STERIS capital equipment). This position serves as the onsite point of Customer contact for STERIS Healthcare products, projects, and serves as the "Face of STERIS." primarily in the SPD area or OR area based on business needs. The PRL will be a clinical and technical advocate for STERIS healthcare within their accounts, and partner across the global service, including GI, IPT, surgical and sales teams, to drive Customer satisfaction and use of STERIS products and services. This is accomplished through effective Customer data analysis, problem-solving techniques, Customer education and delivery of value-added activities.

The Perioperative Support Liaison will perform a defined set of tasks ranging from first responder, daily operator, maintenance, device PMIs, SPD support and/or OR case support dependent on Customer needs and incumbent qualification. This resource will also be responsible for assisting in projects, process improvement initiatives, and KPI management in compliance with contractual obligations. Additionally, this position will manage contracted service portfolio assets and provide robust Customer reporting regarding their contracted scope of work.

Finally, the PRL will promote customer service and satisfaction through training, education, and communication with staff and physicians. High performers in this role will provide direct support to GI, OR and Sterile Processing areas in resolving or diagnosing and escalating for resolution.

What you'll do as a Perioperative Liaison
  • Build and maintain strong, multi-level relationships with hospital stakeholders including OR staff, Sterile Processing, Biomed, GI, Infection Prevention, Risk Management, nursing teams, and surgeons to support clinical and operational success.
  • Serve as the primary on-site liaison for STERIS/IMS, coordinating equipment logistics, installations, service repairs, and asset tracking across operating rooms and sterile processing departments while acting as the central point of contact for customer inquiries.
  • Provide post-installation and go-live clinical and technical support for OR, SPD, and GI product lines, assisting staff with equipment operation, room readiness, and operator-level maintenance of STERIS capital equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and actively monitor equipment performance, including surgical video systems, instrumentation, and consumables, to maximize uptime and identify repair or replacement needs; coordinate off-site and instrument repairs with STERIS/IMS service teams.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of STERIS healthcare products, services, software, and clinical applications, and effectively position solutions to meet customer needs and improve outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards (Department of Health, Joint Commission, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, AORN), as well as adherence to OEM requirements, Instructions for Use (IFUs), and STERIS and facility policies.
  • Complete and manage all required documentation, including SOP adherence, inventory tracking, service records, equipment requests, tray tracking, and Connect Care support; deliver consistent reporting on daily, weekly, and monthly performance metrics.
  • Analyze KPIs and operational data to identify trends and drive LEAN process improvements that enhance workflow efficiency, equipment utilization, and device care practices.
  • Lead and participate in non-credentialed in-services, training sessions, and educational initiatives; actively engage in staff meetings and shift huddles to communicate equipment status and updates.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, account management, clinical education, service, and repair teams to ensure alignment, resolve issues quickly, and enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Identify and communicate growth opportunities by aligning customer needs with STERIS solutions, including capital equipment, consumables, accessories, chemistries, consulting, and services.
  • Support contract deliverables and execute special projects within OR and SPD environments, adapting to customer-specific requirements and providing cross-functional support as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as required to meet customer contractual obligations and evolving business needs.
The Experience, Skills, and Abilities needed or Required:
  • High School diploma/GED required with 6+ years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a hospital/clinical setting (e.g., OR, SPD, hospital operations, or medical device); additional experience in account management, reporting/analysis, sales, training, or customer-facing support may be considered; associate's degree or 2-year technical training strongly preferred
  • Certifications preferred (CCSVP, CRCST, Scrub Tech, Biomed, Equipment Repair) or equivalent military medical experience may count toward experience requirements; ability to obtain certification within 12 months preferred
  • Required clinical, IT, or technical hospital experience, with strong knowledge of OR and sterile processing workflows, medical terminology, instrumentation/devices, infection control practices, and compliance with hospital standards and regulatory bodies (TJC, AORN, AAMI)
  • Working knowledge of STERIS products, equipment, software, and clinical application services, with ability to position solutions effectively and aptitude to perform basic preventative maintenance and repairs
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships across hospital stakeholders (OR, SPD, GI, Biomed, Infection Prevention, Risk Management, nursing staff, surgeons) and lead or support educational in-services
  • Responsible for completing required documentation and delivering daily/weekly/monthly reporting that communicates performance, value, and improvement opportunities (Tableau or similar tools preferred; Lean Six Sigma a plus)
  • Proven customer-focused approach, with strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
