Job Summary and Qualifications
  1. Position Summary:  


The Sterile Processing Supervisor is experienced in all aspects as of Sterile Processing. He/she is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation, equipment and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. She/he is accountable for promoting high levels of employee, patient and physician satisfaction. Promotes optimal patient outcomes, while maintaining appropriate productivity standards. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in instrument handling and sterilization. Performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan for Swedish Medical Center. Follows and supports SMC policy and procedures. Displays positive support for the values and mission of SMC. Provides education on sterilization, instrumentation, and equipment. Oversees the processing, handling and storage of sterile instruments and equipment. Assembles surgical trays and supplies as needed. Operates all equipment in the sterile processing department as well as the facility โ€“GI lab, Robotics, Surgical Orthopedics Center and the Main OR, etc. Will assist in the development of staff including staff evaluations and education. Will have a strong sense of ownership and will actively work to ensure that the needs of the department are met, even when not on duty. Understands that as a departmental leader, it may be necessary to work odd shifts or fill in with little or no notice. Must be willing to perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. 


  1. Position Requirements: 


  1. Licensure/Certification/Registration:  


 Must be IAHCSMM and/or CBSPD certified.  


Education: Graduation from an Accredited High School or GED. Vocational/Technical degree โ€“ preferred.  


Experience:  


Minimum 2 yearsโ€™ experience preferred in Sterile Processing or the Operating Room. 


  1. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  


Demonstrates understanding of Health Care from an organizational system perspective. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the processes required in an SPD. . Demonstrates the ability to plan and provide for the delivery of all SPD services. Ability to communicate with Dept. Managers and staff to maintain constructive relationships. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Participates in counseling and guidance of personnel as well as probationary and annual evaluations. 


  1. Degree of Supervision Required: 


Minimal. Individual proceeds on his/her own initiative, in compliance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and practices of Swedish Medical Center. Collaborates/Coordinates with the Director of Surgical Services and other department directors.
