Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our team!
The Sterile Processing Technician decontaminates, cleans, assembles, wraps, and sterilizes equipment, supplies and instruments to be used hospital-wide including multiple specialty clinics throughout the Aspirus network. He/she assures the availability of supplies for surgery through procedural case cart preparation. These services are provided to multiple customers including outside sales representatives with individualized needs covering multiple procedural specialties. Precision and accuracy in the cleaning and assembling of complex and fragile instruments and accurate selection of products are key to successful, timely, infection free and user satisfied surgical intervention. Practice professional and courteous social skills in his/her interactions with surgical personnel during and after intense situations. Is responsible for monitoring and documenting processing activities.
HOURS: Supplemental or 0.4 FTE, 32 hours every pay period. Varied shifts to include weekend/holiday rotation
Experience/Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and do basic mathematics normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Coursework in instrument processing/sterilization desired.
  • Knowledge of surgical standards and practices normally acquired through previous experience in a health-related field with emphasis on supply, processing, decontamination, and sterilization desired.
  • Knowledge of standards for care, handling, and high-level disinfection of endoscopes desired.
  • Certification as a Central Services Technician desired.
  • Possesses knowledge regarding handling and care of instruments, tray preparation and special procedure items. Additional training for cleaning and disinfecting ERCP scopes with biannual competency.
  • Possesses above average recordkeeping skills and the ability to follow directions with special attention to details.
  • Possesses ability to work closely with others in a team environment.
  • Possesses ability to work in a fast-paced environment and is flexible to change.
  • Covers on-call plus additional on-call for endoscopy.
