Job Summary
The Senior Learning Experience Designer leads the development, launch, and continuous improvement of complex digital courses and programs. Applying expertise in learning science, assessment, accessibility, and digital pedagogy, you will translate faculty goals into effective learning experiences. Additional responsibilities include mentoring Learning Designers, providing peer review and daily guidance, and advancing practices across the team. You will have no formal direct reports and reports to the Learning Design Manager in the Office of Digital Education.
This hybrid position is based in Ann Arbor, MI, with an expectation of three days per week on-site. The role may require occasional domestic travel, on-call responsibilities, and work outside standard business hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain that authorization throughout employment.

Responsibilities*
Design Leadership, Mentorship, and Quality 35%
  • Serve as the learning design lead on complex or high-visibility projects, coordinating design decisions and cross-functional work without formal supervisory authority
  • Mentor Learning Designers through coaching, consultation, observation, and actionable feedback; support onboarding and professional growth
  • Conduct peer reviews and quality assurance to promote consistency, accessibility, academic integrity, and readiness for launch
  • Develop and maintain practical templates, standards, documentation, and reusable approaches that improve team quality and efficiency
  • Identify project risks, dependencies, and resource needs early; recommend solutions and escalate issues to the Learning Design
    Manager when appropriate
  • Collaborate with the Learning Design Manager and Managing Director to advance digital education priorities, evaluate emerging technologies and design approaches, and support scalable pilots and process improvements

Faculty Collaboration and Learning Experience Design 65%
  • Lead the design and development of complex new and redesigned digital courses, programs, and learning assets from discovery through launch and continuous improvement
  • Consult with faculty and academic partners to define learner needs, learning outcomes, instructional strategies, assessments, content structure, and measures of success
  • Translate subject-matter expertise and research into clear course plans, lesson plans, learning activities, assessments, storyboards, scripts, media plans, and learner-facing materials
  • Apply learning science, inclusive and accessible design, Ross Assurance of Learning expectations, and sound digital pedagogy to synchronous and asynchronous experiences
  • Facilitate productive design meetings, prototypes, reviews, and decisions while building trusted faculty relationships and maintaining project momentum
  • Partner with media, graphic design, program, technology, and other teams to deliver coherent, high-quality learning experiences
  • Use learner feedback, course data, faculty input, and emerging trends in higher education and learning science to recommend and implement improvements
  • Develop relationships across Ross and help faculty and staff understand and effectively use learning experience design resources

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive experience in learning experience design, instructional design, educational technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience leading complex digital course or program projects from discovery through launch and improvement
  • Experience with learning science, assessment, accessibility, inclusive design, and digital pedagogy
  • Experience consulting with faculty or subject-matter experts and translating complex academic or technical content into effective learning experiences
  • Experience mentoring colleagues and providing clear, constructive design feedback
  • Experience managing long-term projects
  • Experience with Canvas or another enterprise learning management system and multimedia course development workflows
  • Familiar with emerging learning technologies, including responsible uses of artificial intelligence, experience in business education, or a discipline taught at Ross is also valued

Additional Information
Salary Information:
The salary offer range for this position is $68,500 to $88,300. Salary offers are determined based on several factors, including a candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications, along with internal equity considerations. It is not common for new hires to be placed at the top of the range.

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the University Staff United (USU), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
