AME Engineering is currently looking or a highly motivated Steel Detailer, preferably with previous experience using Tekla Structures or SDS/2, to join our team based in our Downers Grove office.  The Steel Detailer will be responsible for creating 3D models and developing fabrication-level information in support of a wide range of construction projects.

  • Accurately interpret construction documents
  • Develop fabrication level information early in the design process based upon feedback and coordination with internal engineering and construction team members
  • Coordination of models from various trades (HVAC, MEP, etc.) for clash detection and coordination 
  • Create 3D models utilizing Tekla from early design information and construction documents
  • Prepare and modify shop drawings including erection, assembly, and part drawings for the purposes of fabrication utilizing Tekla 3D modeling software
  • Manipulate existing models and drawings as needed
  • Check models through in-model review and report creation
  • Continuing education through a combination of in-house and company-funded external training

  • Associates degree in computer aided drafting or related field
  • 1-3 years of Steel Detailing experience in Commercial Industrial, Manufacturing, and similar project types
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling software, such as Tekla Structures or SDS/2
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter, motivated with the ability to start and finish a project on time
  • Ability to organize, plan and manage multiple activities to accomplish desired results
  • Programming experience such as Visual Studio or Python is a plus, experience with APIs is also a plus
  • Computer skills: 3D Modeling Software (Tekla, SDS/2, or similar), proficiency using Word, Excel, Outlook
