A Steel Sales Rep is responsible for selling steel products to manufacturers, construction companies, and other businesses that require steel for their operations. They identify potential clients, understand their needs, and recommend appropriate steel products and solutions. Steel Sales Reps also negotiate prices, process orders, and maintain long-term relationships with clients to ensure repeat business. Job description

We are looking for a high-energy, fast-paced Counter Sales Representative to join our team. This role is the first point of contact for customers and plays a critical part in daily operations.

This is not a typical cashier or retail position. Our environment is fast-moving and high-pressure, requiring strong multitasking, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple customers at once—both in person and over the phone.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Friendly, assertive, and professional communication style
  • Fast learner with a strong sense of urgency
  • Comfortable handling multiple responsibilities at once
  • Good computer skills and ability to learn internal systems
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus, but not required

What You’ll Do

  • Greet and assist walk-in customers in a professional and efficient manner
  • Answer incoming calls (35–60+ per day) and provide immediate assistance
  • Respond to customer emails while managing in-person and phone interactions
  • Enter orders accurately into QuickBooks using product and service codes (no barcode system)
  • Process hardware, steel materials, and service orders
  • Generate invoices and packing slips for customers
  • Assist customers with general product questions and basic guidance when needed
  • Maintain awareness of multiple customers at once and manage time effectively
  • Help pull small items, carry materials, and assist customers in the showroom or yard when needed

Work Environment & Expectations

  • High-paced, high-pressure environment — some days are nonstop
  • Must be able to multitask constantly (walk-ins, phone calls, and emails at the same time)
  • Calls must be answered quickly (by the 2nd ring when possible)
  • Customers are often in a hurry and may be under pressure — strong customer handling skills are required
  • Accuracy and speed are equally important — mistakes can delay jobs, cost money, and impact customer relationships

Training & Development

  • First 3 weeks: Basic training and system/product introduction
  • Weeks 4–6: Continued learning, asking questions, building confidence
  • By 2 months: Expected to operate independently with minimal supervision

This position is the face of our company and a key part of our daily operations. The right person will help ensure customers are taken care of quickly, accurately, and professionally every time.
