(AISC) We have been in business since 1976 (formerly M&J Materials, Inc.), providing quality service and materials to some of the largest general contractors nationwide.Position SummaryThe Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering steel fabrication projects on schedule and within budget. This role serves as the primary point of contact between M&J Steel and our clients, subcontractors, and internal production teams. The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of structural steel fabrication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced shop environment.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesManage all phases of steel fabrication projects - from pre-construction and shop drawing review through fabrication, delivery, and close-out.Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans; monitor progress and adjust as needed to keep projects on track.Serve as the primary liaison between clients, engineers, detailers, and the shop floor; communicate project status, changes, and issues proactively.Review contract documents, specifications, and drawings to ensure full scope understanding and identify potential risks or conflicts.Coordinate with the detailing team on shop drawing production and approval workflows to maintain schedule compliance.Manage delivery timelines to align with production schedules.Conduct regular project meetings and provide written status reports to stakeholders.Track and process RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation in an organized and timely manner.Work closely with the shop foreman and production staff to ensure fabrication priorities align with project commitments.Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, specifications, AISC standards, and safety requirements.Support estimating and business development efforts as needed, including scope review and budget development for new opportunities.Other duties as required.QualificationsRequired3+ years of project management experience in structural steel or miscellaneous fabrication, construction, or a closely related field - required.Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes, AISC standards, and construction drawings.Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines.Strong proficiency in project scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent).Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with ERP or project management software a plus.Solid understanding of contract documents, drawings, specifications, and change order management.Excellent communication skills - written and verbal - with the ability to work effectively across teams and with external clients. PreferredAISC Certified Fabricator experience or familiarity preferred.Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.PMP certification a plus. Work EnvironmentAbility to work around active fabrication areas.M&J is a drug-free workplace and tests employees upon hire and randomly thereafter.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive pay based on experience.Excellent benefit package.What We're Looking For:We value team members who are reliable, solutions-oriented, and maintain a professional, positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
