Description
Under general supervision, performs routine and preventive maintenance painting duties. This includes a full range of specialized painting projects including, painting small and large structural steel and miscellaneous products for field operations. Performs inspections, clean ups, storage and disposal of paint products, and operates various tools and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
  • Be capable of performing all aspects of industrial painting, working with other employees as part of a team, and being prompt and on time daily. Perform a variety of routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, such as steel and structural steel painting, sand blasting, powder blast and preparation for enamel, epoxy, bitumastics and latex painting.
  • Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces including, aluminum, ferrous metal, uncoated metal, plate, and other surfaces as specified; protect and prime surfaces as appropriate; apply finish coatings to Mil Spec requirements.
  • Apply protective coatings to items such as miscellaneous metalwork; such as stairs, handrails and door jams, which might require wash down or abrasive cleaners.
  • Have the ability to become efficient with painting techniques
  • Paint required galvanized surfaces per specification.
  • Correct work as directed; repair nicks, scratches or other small imperfections in the finish.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State and local occupational safety, health and air pollution control regulations including Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and with all safety precautions recommended by paint manufacturer.
  • Clean-up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials; apply standard safety practices and procedures.
  • Maintain all OSHA safety standards in the performance of duties.
  • Perform related duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prefer High School diploma, GED or equivalent and 1-3 year of previous painting experience, supplemented by professional painting training.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be dependable, reliable, and mature enough to handle equipment in a safe and sensible manner.
  • Perform painting maintenance in assigned work area.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Safe operation of painting equipment with proper "PPE," Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Perform a variety of painting related tasks for extended periods of time, which may include heavy manual labor.
