Job description

Position Summary:

Leeco Steel, a leading supplier of steel plate products across North America, is seeking an Estimator to join the growing processing team. This position will prepare processing quotations for the sales team by reviewing Requests for Quote requirements along with any technical drawings and associated specifications. The ideal candidate poesses experience in estimating, knowledge of steel processing, strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team enviornment. This position is based out of the Oshkosh, WI facility and requires in-office attendance.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Read and interpret customer drawings and specifications to create accurate cost estimates for steel plate part processing and fabrication projects.
  • Interpret jobs to help determine if an opportunity fits within the equipment and/or personnel capabilities at each location.
  • Compute costs by identifying materials, fabrication processes and time requirements utilizing quoting software (Sectura, Excel) and established rate tables per blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Work with sales and purchasing department to gather material costs.
  • Work with Production Department to establish fabrication rates and options for fabrication methods.
  • Review and recommend updates to work center rates and rate tables.
  • Regularly review Job Costings to establish accuracy of estimates and estimating process.
  • Contribute to team effort by performing duties within the Estimating Department and other Departments, including Production, as needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of industry standard processing capabilities and practices.
  • Assist with sales and programming teams in searching for and utilizing remnant inventory where applicable.
  • Assist sales with customer calls to discuss processing opportunities and quote feedback.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of the estimation process.
  • Travel as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Production/Logistics or relevant field OR equivalent work experience. 
  • 2+ years of experience in estimating and programming software, preferably in a steel fabrication or steel plate processing industry.
  • Understanding of steel fabrication processes including materials.
  • Knowledge and experience with steel processing equipment including but not limited to Oxyfuel, Plasma, Drill, Laser, Break Press, and Welding.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimation and programming software.
