Structural Steel Estimator
Arizona | Full-Time
Pay: $90k-$116k
We’re looking for a Structural Steel Estimator who actually understands how steel jobs get built — not somebody who just pushes numbers around in a spreadsheet all day.
This role is for someone with real experience pricing structural steel and misc. metals work who can look at a set of drawings, catch scope gaps, understand fabrication and erection challenges, and put together bids that make sense in the real world.
You’ll be working closely with project management, fabrication, field leadership, and vendors throughout the estimating process. If you’ve been around structural steel projects and understand the balance between competitive pricing and protecting margin, you’ll fit in well here.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Building estimates for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and industrial steel projects
- Reviewing drawings, specs, and bid packages
- Performing takeoffs and pricing labor, material, equipment, erection, and subcontracted scopes
- Identifying constructability issues, schedule impacts, and project risk early
- Working directly with fabrication shops, field teams, vendors, and project managers
- Reviewing vendor and subcontractor pricing to make sure scopes are covered correctly
- Writing clean proposals, clarifications, inclusions, and exclusions
- Helping with project handoff after award so operations teams aren’t walking into surprises
- Managing multiple bids at once while keeping deadlines on track
What They’re Looking For
- 3–5+ years estimating structural steel, misc. metals, or industrial steel projects
- Strong understanding of fabrication and steel erection means & methods
- Ability to read structural and architectural drawings without getting lost
- Experience with takeoffs, scope reviews, and pricing development
- Familiarity with AISC/AWS standards
- Comfortable working in Bluebeam, Excel, Outlook, and estimating software
- Someone organized, accountable, and good under pressure
Big Plus If You Have
- Industrial project experience
- Design-assist estimating experience
- Experience working directly with fabrication shops and field erection crews
- Tekla or Foundation experience
- Conceptual estimating and budgeting experience
This is a good fit for somebody who likes being involved in the actual strategy of a project instead of being stuck in a corporate estimating silo all day. The team is heavily operations-focused, so they want somebody who understands how steel projects actually come together in the field — not just on paper.
