Scope of Responsibility:

This position involves fabricating and assembling structural steel components using prescribed procedures, industry standards, and detailed drawings. Employees must complete SteelCon's Welder & Fabricator Training Program.

Essential Duties:

  • Interpret complex fabrication blueprints to identify and prepare required materials for assembly.
  • Safely operate fabrication tools including grinders, drills, torches, and welding machines.
  • Accurately layout and fit steel components using measuring tools such as levels, squares, and angle finders.
  • Tack weld structural parts using Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) techniques.
  • Use overhead cranes and rigging equipment to maneuver large steel structures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, following all company and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Inspect work visually and with tools such as weld gauges to ensure quality and code compliance.
  • Assist other team members in fabrication and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and problem-solving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Commit to continuous improvement of processes, safety practices, and work quality.
  • Follow daily production schedules and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Consistently attend and participate in shift duties and required training.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior experience in industrial or structural steel fabrication is highly desirable
  • Strong ability to read and interpret welding/fabrication drawings and blueprints
  • Basic math proficiency, including fractions, decimals, and unit conversions
  • Must be able to read and write in English and understand technical specifications
  • Familiarity with weld symbols and proper use of welding gauges

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand and work for the entirety of an assigned shift (8-10 hours)
  • Must lift, push, pull, and handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working in awkward positions
  • Exposure to elevated noise levels and environmental conditions (heat, cold, dust)
  • Must use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as welding helmet, gloves, earplugs, safety glasses, etc.
