About This Role
As a Statistician, you will support General Matter's Nuclear Material Control & Accountability program. This program is key to ensuring the safe, secure, and compliant management of nuclear material. This role is ideal for someone with strong math skills who can apply them to real-world measurements and are keenly detail oriented to ensure accurate documentation and reporting for compliance. You will work alongside engineers to ensure accurate tracking of nuclear materials in compliance with NRC regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Perform basic statistical calculations to support inventory checks and material balances.
  • Track and verify measurement data, including weights, volumes, and assay results.
  • Calculate averages, error margins, and simple uncertainty estimates for measurements.
  • Help design and check forms, spreadsheets, and databases used for MC&A reporting.
  • Support periodic physical inventories and reconcile records with actual counts.
  • Assist in preparing compliance reports and internal audits.
  • Work with engineers and safeguards staff to learn applied MC&A concepts.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Statistics,, Physics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in advanced math fundamentals, including algebra, probability, and descriptive statistics (means, variance, standard deviation, error propagation).
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem solving abilities.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc).
  • Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment or a highly technical role requiring a resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to complete tasks within tight timeframes or budget constraints.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey math concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with physics or chemistry concepts.
  • Interest in learning about nuclear safeguards and regulatory compliance.

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range for this role is $75,000-$120,000 annually.
Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. Please note that the stated salary range is an estimate and may be adjusted based on market conditions, business needs, or other factors. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
