Maintenance Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Engineer

The Maintenance Instrumentation & Electrical Engineer plays a dual roleโ€”supporting both the Maintenance team and a cross-functional Plant team including engineers, chemists, researchers, and technologists.

The Engineer maintains the siteโ€™s Electrical and Instrument infrastructure and equipment. Instrumentation work includes flow, level, temperature, weigh systems and control valves. They also support programmable logic controller (PLC) work and Distributed Control System (DCS) programming.

Baton Rouge has Research & Development (R&D) and manufacturing capabilities. A dedicated team performs fundamental research and product development in the laboratories, pilot plant, scale-up, as well as full-scale manufacturing.

The Maintenance Instrumentation & Electrical Engineer is in Baton Rouge, LA and reports to the Maintenance Reliability Leader, working a straight-day, 9/80 schedule.  

Responsibilities
  • Plant I&E support - troubleshoot Instrumentation, Electrical & DCS issues. 
  • Assist and support plant & lab instrumentation and control systems such as Foxboro and Emerson Delta V.
  • Maintain Plant Quality critical instruments & weigh scales.
  • Analyze existing instrumentation and determine if the selected equipment is the best available for the intended application. Ensure proper PMs in place.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Maintain assigned tasks within the plant Management of Change (MOC) system for Electrical, Instrument and DCS changes.
  • Actively participate in site Envitornment, Health and Safety initiatives.    
Physical Requirements and Environment
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in electrical and/or instrumentation design or maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the design, selection, and application of process control equipment such as level, pressure, flow, low voltage power equipment (breakers, relays, starters, transformers, etc)
  • Demonstrated experience with technical problem-solving skills, failure analysis, and maintenance.
  • Experience with SAP Maintenance
  • Experience with DCS programming
  • PSM (Process Safety Management) and SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) experience
  • Experience with safe work practices, industry standards and regulations
